Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt became the latest Big 12 leader to weigh in on possible conference expansion, on the heels of Oklahoma president David Boren's comments last month that the league was "psychologically disadvantaged" at only 10 schools."
In an interview with Double T 104.3 FM in Lubbock, Hocutt echoed Tech president Duane Nellis, who in a statement said he was "comfortable with the current membership of the Big 12" and that the league is "in a good position.”
"I think president Nellis [was] absolutely right,” Hocutt said. “We’re at the time of the year where everybody is getting so excited about fall camp starting and the football season that’s in front of us. It’s a slower activity period, as far as college sports go. So President Boren’s comments obviously generated a lot of thought and discussion.
“There’s a process that is led by Bob Bowlsby, who I think is one of the best leaders in college athletics, as well as our president, and I know that we will continue to look at the landscape and be as strategic and proactive as we possibly can be.”
