Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says the Big 12 should apologize for not expanding after it spent three months vetting and interviewing potential new member schools.

Big 12 can't agree on expansion, to stay at 10
The Big 12 could not reach consensus on possible expansion candidates and will remain at 10 schools for now.

Big 12 issues go deeper with uncertain future following expansion talks
The Big 12's 15-month runaround expansion process is over. The league's psychological disadvantage remains, and this process has revealed deeper issues and an uncertain future.
The governor, who previously tweeted his support for Houston being added to the Big 12, blasted the conference on Twitter on Monday night.

"The Big 12 owes a lot of people an apology. It punted on expansion & shanked its future. (at)UHouston deserved better," Abbott tweeted.

Abbott is a University of Texas graduate.

Earlier Monday, the Big 12 announced that it would not add to its 10 members. Houston was among the 11 schools the Big 12 met with in September.

Political grandstanding.

By saying this the Gov is "looking out" for Houston, while the B12 is essentially forcing Herman out since UH will not be able to keep him (UT happens to be a favorite to get him) and UT folks are happy not having to fight with Coug High for recruits any more than they already are.

Well played.

I'm not sure the Big 12 acted in Good Faith.

Like others, I believe it was an act of leverage against the tv networks for more money. We'll see before Spring if a new/modified contract is announced.

Still not cool....schools trying to get in must have paid major bucks working on application packages.

I think expansion would have happend had the TexA$$ Gov not gotten involved in the 1st place, saying BIG12 expansion is dead without Houston, then putting on all that pressure. I mean where the F does he get off? Had Houston not been such a political issue the BIG12 would have gone with UC and BYU 2 months ago

Did he apologize for going off the deep end over that "Jade Helm" nonsense yet? The man needs to prioritize his pontificating.
