Even on a let down we should have beaten Texas with the way they played. Texas played fairly poorly themselves. Hopefully Texas makes a little more noise and keeps it from being a "bad" loss, but I'd call it that because Texas played to its record of 11-6 today.

texas is actually 1 of the top 4 teams we've played. and dont worry about it being a 'bad loss' texas is top 25 in every rpi - before this game

Texas will struggle to win 17 games before the Big 12 tourney.....mark it down. They aren't very good.

You do understand that Texas now has two wins over Top Ten teams. Right?

Shaka Smart is just getting started. Tonight we were beaten at our own game.

texas beat iowa state, unc, and us. they are talented and they have a top coach.

and, now, a top 20 rpi

How can you have a letdown?? There were SOOOO many things to play for in this game. #6 with a chance to move to at least #4 since two in front lost. Texas has owned us and this was a chance to exact some revenge...should have run them out of our gym. The B12 title was in our total control with both KU and Oky losing. NO EXCUSE. We sucked tonight and there is no reason to think we or the team should have expected a letdown. Sorry, not buying it.

im not selling it. but i've seen it a 1000 times.

we're not super talented. this will happen to this team

UNC....way overrated

Iowa State.....under performing thus far under a new coach

Sorry, but Texas has no post presence at all. Their big man is out with a foot injury. If Ridley had played, we get beat by 20+ tonight. Our post player took himself out of yet another game early on. Our guards stunk it up. Holton and Macon were only two that I felt were going in there aggressively and trying.

I did not expect a letdown. But, if anyone has paid attention to Texas this season, tonight's game, while disappointing, is not really that big of surprise.

The Big 12 is just an absolutely brutal conference this year. Blink your eyes and you get beat.

Mark it down......we are a 21-23 win team......probably a 4-7 seed in the tourney. That's who we are. We are NOT a #1-3 seed. No PG. No dominate player.

WVU had open looks all throughout the game and only made 29% from the field. Texas shot 38% from the field going into the final 2 minutes. Texas shot 60% from the FT line. I recognize that Texas has athletes and a good coach, but they did not play all that well. Also, if they played against us like they did against UNC ... we get laughed out of our own house. Dress it up how ever you like, but Texas did not play all that great this game. WVU just played worse

dont overreact. we just played #1 and #2... hence the letdown. and texas is way better than you think

Have to agree to disagree. The quality of the team doesn't change the quality of the performance. WVU just playing below average compared to their ability should have still won this game in my opinion.

Let down? Who cares if we played flat or shot poorly. The only thing that separates WVU from being a good team from a great team is FREE THROWS. And that is sad and completely on Huggins.

The only thing we did well tonight was rebound. Couldn't make lay ups, tip ins, foul shots, jump shots or three pointers, couldn't turn them over, couldn't go inside even though 3 of their big men had 4 fouls, had critical lapses on defense and forgot the Felix could dead shoot when left open.

I agree. We did more by omission than Texas did for themselves in this win. Hell, Texas kept giving us chances by their own ineptitude.

I bet the regular season Big 12 champ has 3-4 conference losses.

And Texas had nothing to do with how we played?
Maybe their defense disrupted us more than ours disrupted them.
Maybe they actually have better guards than we do.

Texas has three wins over ranked opponents. Two of them in the Top Ten.

No point in arguing this any further as you can never convince me that Texas played a great game. The coach, players, or previous record has no bearing on how the Longhorns played in this specific game. Texas left us wide OPEN on enough plays that if WVU just shoots 38% like Texas we win by 5-10 points. Their defense GAVE up those wide open looks and did nothing to disrupt us ... our inability to make 4 out of 10 uncontested shots did. They didn't light us up on offense either. Now they did avoid turnovers unlike other teams, but the offense didn't just shoot lights out against say the way Duke did in the 2010 Final Four. Unlike Oklahoma they didn't shoot 85% or better from the FT line. They shot 60% which no one will ever say is "good". Texas made WAY too many mistakes to beat a top 10 team without that ranked team giving them A LOT of help.

Correct. WV does not have a big that can take the pass inside and ............. SCORE. But, still the team is very good and plays great together. I am a fan..............win or lose.

I don't think anyone is claiming Texas is a great team or played a great game, but it's not a bad team. We gave them the opportunity with our poor shooting but they still had to take advantage of it and they did just enough to win a conference road game over a good (not great) team. Even as poorly as we shot from the field and the line, UT having the TO advantage was a key to its win and we can't say that TO advantage was 100% us playing poorly; UT does deserve some credit for handling our pressure and preventing us from getting points off TOs.

When we play teams that are not bad, we need to do enough to win despite not having a true PG or being able to shoot. We're good enough to do that sometimes and we likely won't shoot that dreadfully very often, but we have obvious weaknesses and are going to lose games even when we shoot closer to our norms, maybe even above our norms when we play really good teams. That doesn't mean we won't beat some good teams.

People think just because I am saying that WVU did more to lose this game than Texas did to win it that I am crapping all over Texas. Texas has a good team, a good coach, and has beaten some good teams. But just analyzing this game, Texas played at a level that WVU should have been able to overcome. I doubt Texas gets their other two ranked wins playing the way they played against WVU. Texas did do some things well like half-court defense and ball security, but also did a few things poorly like shoot from the field or free throw line.

Agreed .... no point in arguing this any further because I NEVER SAID THAT TEXAS PLAYED A GREAT GAME.

But if it helps yourself to look better in your own eyes by wrongly characterizing someone else then by all means keep doing it. Who, on a chat board, can actually stop you from doing that?

thats fair. fwiw, huggs is pretty much saying we had a let down.

I really don't see how a college team that plays with the intensity we need to play at can come out and do it every single game.

That's why, in my heart of hearts, I don't really believe this is a Final Four team. It would be nice to be wrong. But I'm not drinking the kool-aid.

We should have some more great wins, stay ranked, get in the NCAAs, and hopefully win at least a couple of games. But we will have games when 1) the other team thwarts our offense and 2) is not completely disrupted by our defense. A team like that, which also has good guards like Texas does, can just step up, take us out of our game, and beat us .... even in our own house.

True ... you were never directly quoted as saying that Texas played a GREAT GAME as you put it. Yet twice you responded in disagreement with my posts that despite Texas having a good coach and good players, they played a pretty pedestrian game in Morgantown and not even at the level they had to play at to beat ISU or UNC. I provided my interpretation of the stats and my opinion that the Texas performance was one WVU could, and SHOULD, overcome at home. To me you either didn't think my previous posts adequately relayed the opinion I just wrote or you disagree with my opinion. And if you disagree with my opinion and defend how Texas affected us, it makes me think your proposing that Texas caused the Mountaineers to look inept more than our guys shooting themselves in the foot. Aka Texas played a good game and they won it more than WVU lost it. If that last sentence sums up your evaluation, then I stand by my statement that we will have to agree to disagree. Either way, no need to be angry for either of us.

Texas sped WVU up. That's really all there is to it. That and legs were clearly tired.

Bell clearly missed how disruptive Texas was to WVU. They beat WVU at their own game.

If you want to say they played a pedestrian game because their offense was less than very good I guess you can go ahead and say that. But the fact is they turned the ball over a lot less than teams usually do against WVU and their defense was very disruptive to WVU.

They came into Morgantown and took the Mountaineers out of their game and beat them ... on their home court. Call their performance whatever you want to call it ... but it was a great win for UT; their third over a ranked opponent and their second against a Top Ten team.

You can say we should have beaten them all day long every day. But we didn't and it wasn't a fluke.

They'll be fine. Was a 7 point loss to a quality team that's beaten Carolina & I-State & is in the NCAA picture as of now.

Funky nights like that have been happening across college hoops all season. Was just our turn to take the upset.

Surprised only by the fact it was a home loss in a winnable game.

Obviously the well documented free throws ills are a concern, but the team still most of the time does other stuff really well & has been a consistent winner.

Surviving into the top half of this league is going to be impressive.

Put it to bed. Get back on track at Tech Saturday. All will be well in the world again!
