MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 22, 2015) – The West Virginia University women’s tennis team opens play at the Big 12 Women’s Tennis Championship against No.7-seed Oklahoma on Thursday April 23, on the Grandstand Courts at the Hurd Tennis Center, in Waco, Texas. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m. ET.
“Our expectation is that we will be at our best going into tomorrow’s match. Oklahoma is a good team and we know what to expect from them,” said second-year coach Miha Lisac. “It’s up to us find a way to rise up to the occasion.”
The Mountaineers (9-12, 0-9) enter the Championship as the No. 10 seed. West Virginia closed out the regular season on Sunday, April 19, against then-No. 10 Oklahoma State, as it dropped a 4-0 decision at the Mountaineer Tennis Courts.

Shaker holds an 8-3 mark at the No. 4 position and a 3-1 mark at the No. 5 slot in singles play. Sophomore Kaja Mrgole has tallied nine wins at the No. 1 slot, and freshman Carolina Lewis has a team-best 11-2 mark in dual-match play, with victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 slots.
In the lone meeting between the Sooners and the Mountaineers this season, Oklahoma edged WVU, 4-0, at the Mountaineer tennis courts on April 18.
The winner of tomorrow’s matchup advances to play No.2-seed Texas Tech on Friday, April 24, at 1 p.m. ET.
Baylor comes into the weekend as the No. 1 seed. The Lady Bears finished off their regular season with an 8-1 record in conference play. BU has now won 11 Big 12 regular season titles, including nine in the last 10 years.
