TCU, a title contender?

Boykin is the real deal. Talented, versatile, poised and he just has that it factor and leadership aspect that makes a team better in every way. But, is he enough? How far can he carry what is otherwise a so-so football team?

They've got some big flaws. The defense is not good. As one dimensional and untalented as we are, we should have scored at least in the 30s. We had guys wide open all night; their secondary didn't look any better than Maryland's. They were better against the run as Smallwood and Shell combined for only 36 yards in the first half-- 81 in the first 3 quarters, but I'm not convinced they can stack up against, as we like to say, the "big boys." I think several SEC teams, the Buckeyes, Stanford, MSU and even Clemson would control the LOS against TCU.

TCU also doesn't have a great running game when you remove Boykin from the equation. The rest of the team had 29 carries for 144 yards; 50 of that came on 2 carries so, for most of the game TCU struggled to run on us, and our DL is nothing like it would face in the playoffs.

I think Boykin does have that rare quality that makes it possible, but I see them as a longshot if they make the playoffs and wouldn't be at all surprised if they don't. I honestly don't think that other than Boykin/Howard there is that great a difference between us and them. I'm not saying switch them and we win by 30, but I'm pretty sure we'd win comfortably.

Baylor is a better all-around team than TCU. Without Russell that might not be enough for it to win out and unless the freshman is pretty damn good, not enough to beat TCU head to head if Boykin has a big game.

National title contender?

No. Their defense sucks and they don't have a good enough ground game. Boykin is great, but he can't carry them through the playoffs himself.

No. I don't see them as a F4 team.

As much as Baylor is despised by most of our fans I am hoping they don't miss a beat with their new QB and I hope they roll to the NC.
