Just spoke with Lakewood (Oh.) St. Edward defensive back Tony Butler and he told me that it was very hard to cut his list down to a final two. Eventually he came down to West Virginia and Arizona State and the two schools really couldn't be more different in the overall scope of his recruitment. Butler grew up watching West Virginia games on television but the Mountaineers were one of the more recent schools to offer him following his unofficial visit in late July. That trip greatly impressed him and it moved the Mountaineers up further on his list especially due to the relationship he has with his lead recruiters Brian Mitchell and Ron Crook. Arizona State has been recruiting Butler since February and he obviously didn't grow up close to that program and has yet to visit there. Still that is part of the advantage it has because he is intrigued by something new and has a great bond with the coaches there as well. Butler plans to take official visits to both schools following the season and will make his decision after he visits both. He knows that other schools are going to still try to get in the picture but for now he wants to try to keep this a top two.
