WEEK ONE RESULTS

Will drop in rankings: Tennessee, Clemson, Notre Dame.

Didn’t help cause much: Stanford, Michigan State, TCU, Iowa, Georgia, Florida/

Solid case for their rankings: Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Washington, Oklahoma State, Oregon.

May drop out of rankings: Oklahoma, LSU, UCLA.

WVU might get some attention after easily beating Missouri, and in particular against a Tiger defense that has been ranked high nationally for a half-decade, and holding the #1 Missouri defender to TWO tackles, even though a redshirt freshman had to step in for an injured WVU lineman to battle the star defender.

Polls are always wrong, we will probably receive some votes and be ranked before Big XII play if we handle BYU, but the real gauge is how this team does in conference. We will see ultimately how impressive the Mizzou game was in due time, I thought we handled our business nicely, but there is a decent chance Mizzou is ultimately a bottom feeder and we are an average 6-6 type of team.

At this stage, we don't know if WVU will be 6-6 or 8-4. Or most other teams, for that matter. College football is close to parity, except for Alabama and Ohio State and maybe a few others. That's what makes it so exciting.

Polls are merely what some folks (or computer) THINK. They are not what someone KNOWS. Think!

Oklahoma won't come close to dropping out.

Upon reflection, you're probably right, because it's Oklahoma. But the Sooners will take a major hit and drop down more than a few rungs in the ratings. All the carnage up and down the line will help Oklahoma, too. I mean, who the hell they gonna pick after Alabama?

Don't forget, OU has Ohio St. on 9/17. They could be 1-2 by the time conference play begins.

WVU is 37th in both coaches and writers' polls, I believe. Just enough to get their helmet in the ring, pending the outcomes of the Youngstown and BYU games. Beat BYU by 3 TDs and WVU will move up the ladder, particularly if weeks 2 and 3 are anything like week 1 for the top 25 teams.
