The Steelers have released quarterback Tajh Boyd and signed receiver Jarrod West.
Boyd was signed in the spring to compete with third-stringer Landry Jones, but Boyd never really mounted much of a competition. Jones took every snap in the first two preseason games except for the six starter Ben Roethlisberger had last week in Jacksonville.
Boyd became expendable when backup quarterback Bruce Gradkowski was activated from the physically-unable-to-perform list on Sunday.
West tried out for the Steelers last week, but the Steelers signed veteran David Nelson instead. However, Nelson injured his shoulder after one practice.
