Seth Davis of The Athletic asked coaches to break down opponents (anonymously). Here is what they said about the Mountaineers:

West Virginia: “Perimeter shooting is a weakness, but when they miss it, they go and get it. If you can’t match them on the boards, you’re in trouble. Their point guard play is an issue. This isn’t Press Virginia anymore. They don’t have that Jevon Carter type guy to turn you over two or three times. You have to eliminate easy post catches. They’re going to foul you, so it helps to have two guys off the bench who can come in and battle. With Miles McBride, you don’t want straight-line drives. Shade him to the left and be physical with him. They’re a high-turnover, low-possession team. They can’t play with pace because they’re playing two big guys together a lot. They make the game hard to watch, coach, officiate and play because they’re so physical. You can play hack a Shaq with Derek Culver because he doesn’t have confidence at the free-throw line. He’ll get frustrated and settle for jump shots. With Oscar Tshiebwe, you just have to hope officials call fouls, because otherwise there’s nothing you can do.”
