-There was a lot of rotating on both sides of the ball and with each of the different units. The first group to come out on offense was QB: Skyler Howard, RB Justin Crawford, WR Ka'Raun White, WR Jovon Durante, WR Daikiel Shorts and WR Shelton Gibson with the offensive line being RT Marcell Lazard, RG Kyle Bosch, C Tyler Orlosky, LG Adam Pankey, LT Yodny Cajuste.
The second team defense was: the same with DL Noble Nwachukwu, NG Darrien Howard, DL Christian Brown, SAM Justin Ardnt, MIKE Al-Rasheed Benton, WILL Sean Walters, SPUR Kyzir White, BS Jarrod Harper, FS Jeremy Tyler, CB Rasul Douglas and CB Maurice Fleming.
-A free safety West Virginia rotated Tyler as well as Toyous Avery and even Jarrod Harper. Tyler had possibly the best day on defense as he recorded two interceptions and was delivering a bunch of big hits. He was fired up and making plays all over the field.
-The first team offense did not have a good day today only scoring a field goal on 11 possessions. Albeit with different combinations running it there at various times but there was no question the defense won today. Howard threw three interceptions but each of those were tipped two on great plays by the defensive back.
-West Virginia used a lot of four wide receiver but also showed some two back with a tight end and three wide receiver looks. They had a lot of different looks and situations with around 100 total plays.
-The defense used a lot of the nickel package they unveiled last week and put the defensive backs in man to man situations and today they held up well.
-As a whole the quarterbacks were up and down with all the offenses managing only two touchdowns. Coincidentally enough runs by William Crest and Cody Saunders. In a limited sample size Saunders looked to throw the ball well and also showed off his legs on a 35 yard touchdown run. Crest and Chugunov were both inconsistent throwing high at times but overall it was just a bad day for the offense.
-I can say the first team offense did show some signs of life at the end when Holgorsen obviously challenged them. They went tempo and Jovon Durante caught a pass from the slot and made some moves to get down the sideline with one of the most impressive plays of the day.
-Justin Crawford runs with low pad level and is not only shifty but physical. He ran over Toyous Avery in the hole on one play and was shifty in the open field. He did fumble the ball once.
-Billy Kinney served as the first team punter when he was out there.
-Brendan Ferns worked exclusively as the second team MIKE until later in the scrimmage when there was a lot more bodies thrown in the mix. He absolutely looks like he can play again.
-Mike Molina hit 3-4 field goals with a long of 43 yards. He looked to kick the ball well when given the opportunity.
-Kennedy McKoy stretched a lot during the second portion of the scrimmage because he was tight and it was precautionary.
-Redshirt freshman Adam Shuler worked in a lot with the first team unit as the scrimmage went on and it's obvious he is going to play a role in the rotation right now. He is physically ready to go.
-You also saw David Long and Xavier Preston working with the first team unit at times and Long backed up the claims on him impressing with some nice plays on the ball.
-True freshman Reese Donahue again got a sack and applied pressure during the drills. His motor is evident and he doesn't look like a freshman either.
-Michael Ferns worked as the first team fullback while Stone Wolfley served as the tight end in different sets.
-Matt Jones worked as the second team center for most of the scrimmage. Tony Matteo did not look to be participating.
-Marcus Simms caught quite a few passes with the second team unit and was a popular target. He also got down the seam for a 25-yard grab to set up a score.
-Jarrod Harper and Nana Kyeremeh also recorded interceptions.
-Mentioned this in the recap but RB Rushel Shell, FB Elijah Wellman and SPUR Marvin Gross were all in green and did not participate in the scrimmage.
