Living outside the P-burgh market and not being particularly interested in the Pirates or Pens, I'm not quite up to speed on options to view ROOT Sports Pittsburgh online or via an app. Are there options? I'm sure someone here knows. Would really appreciate someone dropping some knowledge.

Root Sports Pittsburgh is available on Dish Network and DirecTV. Both require an upgraded sports package. I have no idea about streaming or cable.

Put simply, ROOT Sports is the regional cable sports network carrying the Pirates, Penguins, and various other sports in and around the Pittsburgh market.

Regarding ROOT Pittsburgh specifically, they're known to carry WVU Football at such times....like last weekend, and this coming weekend......when the national networks (like ESPN and Fox) don't have the telecasts. Said another way, ROOT is the Fox Sports ________ equivalent in the Pittsburgh, Denver, Houston, and Seattle markets. However, their programming is sometimes carried (as was the case last weekend) outside their respective markets on FOX Sports regional channels.

To the best of my knowledge, ROOT does not have a native streaming service (though perhaps someone can confirm/deny).

Does anyone stream the games online anywhere? I know this is a touchy subject all things considered. I'm not a Fed or anything like that. I just want to watch the game.

Without an online streaming option that's a hard case to make. Say want you want about ESPN (and I normally say plenty having dealt with them professionally on multiple occasions), they make their stuff available.

Root Sports > ESPN

There was a fella streaming under 'WVwildlife', some kind of facebook feed I think last year? I tuned in on a few of the road games and it was a pretty reliable feed...Not sure about this year...I will be attempting to Google it this wknd...

Watched a bunch of games last year on WV-wildlife; Try this link, : ustream.tv/channel/wv-wildlife; for some reason I tried to copy & paste this link here & it was coming over all messed up. anyway check it out, it worked last year for sure.

Did not try it out for last weeks game, found it on cable here in NC so not sure if still good or not

I'm in NC too and had the game. I'll check it out. Thanks to all except the snarky folks. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I have DirecTV, and I sign up for the Sports Pack from September through February. It is $14 a month, or $70 for football and basketball seasons.

Along with several WVU games, it provides access to Big 12 weekly shows on the Fox regional channels. You'll likely get some Mountaineer soccer, volleyball and wrestling, too.

It's a good deal, I think. A couple of tips:

1) Don't sign up until just before the first WVU football game that is only available with the Sports Pack.

2) Call DirecTV and cancel the package before the Big 12 basketball tournament. WVU's postseason hoops games are available without Sports Pack.

If WVU is your only interest, there's not much reason to buy the package from March through August.

FWIW, it doesn't currently appear those of us who successfully snared the GSU game on our local regional Sports affiliate are going to have the same luck this weekend.

In the final analysis.....which I myself didn't realize in advance of game time......last week's game was actually a Fox Sports production that was simply cleared to the Pittsburgh/WV market on Root Pittsburgh. Hence, many of us outside that area found the game on some manner of Fox Sports Regional (or other programmers, like Mid-Atlantic Sports, who evidently have some relationship with Fox Sports).

OTOH, it appears as though the Liberty game is a Root Sports production (and will presumably have Rob King doing P-B-P). But the really bad news is that it doesn't look like they're clearing the telecast to regional channels like Fox Sports or MASN.

If that's the case, it appears a lot of us (beyond tigeer) are going to be hoping/praying for someone to post a working streaming link on Saturday afternoon (whether it's wv wildlife's Ustream link or anyone else's).

I believe this is WVU's Tier 3 game.

ESPN still does sports? I thought they switched to politics since they are always pushing a political (extreme Progressive) agenda. ESPN is a joke. Plus, they hate hockey.
