Not a ton of info yet, but a few key things to note.
- Bids are due August 10th. Usually they award these bids a couple weeks afterward.
- Gateway Engineering, the same company that did the preliminary engineering work for the Mountaineer Field turf replacement, crown removal, geological treatment, new drainage system and base, etc. did the same here.
- Substantial Completion is slated for January 5th, 2016 and Final Completion is January 22nd, 2016. That would give plenty of wiggle room for finishing it before Spring Practice begins. As I'm sure most folks know, they'll be starting work on Mountaineer Field about the same time, so it's vital to have a functional practice complex while the work is ongoing there since it won't be available.
- The liquidated damages clause is $2,500 per day starting at Substantial Completion through Final Completion.
- I was hoping to get a clue as to who they selected for the turf since they're obviously going to use the same vendor, if not the exact same product, for both new turf fields. It's like trying to infiltrate the Kremlin, apparently, since nobody will talk about it. Anyhoo, I noticed Sports Construction Management was on the pre-bid attendance log. They do a lot of work with AstroTurf as a subcontractor, I think, and did the preliminary work and install of the AstroTurf at the new baseball park. That could mean something or absolutely nothing. I don't know. Maybe someone else does.
- They supposedly raised the private funds for this project(it's not coming out of the $75 million bond) pretty easily some time ago according to Matt Borman from the MAC.
