REPORT: The Big 12, Notre Dame and NBC

Would be the finishing death nail for the Big 12. Notre Dame sucks the life out of a conference. They helped kill the Big East, then moved on to ACC who took every team. Now they want to destroy Big 12.

Is this ND job? To finish off Bigless 12 after teams from PAC join Bigless 12.

Hey looky! Idiot shill Allen with another death to the BIG 12 proclamation!

News could come out that the BIG 12 is adding Alabama and Ohio State and getting $200 million per year and Troll Allen and Voorwhore and a few others would try to spin it as a negative for the BIG 12.

Im guessing either the ACC, ESPN or PAC pays the two named anti BIG 12 douches And a few others here as well.

I don't bother reading online opinions of what is going on, but my personal opinion would be that ND is simply attempting to better position themselves at the bargaining table when the rubber meets the pavement. Yes, they would love to remain independent, and are currently investigating the possibility of reigning in a $75 million/year deal out of NBC. At the same time, they can probably see the handwriting on the wall, one that tells them they ultimately may need to join a conference in order to compete for national titles. By gaining a $75 million/year payoff, they can then use that as a major bargaining chip at the table, when discussing conference affiliation with the SEC and/or B1G. In other words, they want to keep all that money to themselves, without sharing a dime with other conference members. The SEC and B1G won't allow themselves to be 'Longhorned' into a bad deal.

Additionally, the Big XII, no matter how desperate it may currently be feeling, should not allow ND into their bed. They'll shit on the sheets, steal your pillows, and move onto the next 'best' deal. They have a history.

I think Notre Dame does not want to join a conference but does want to remain relevant in major college athletics. Keeping a lucrative NBC sports deal allows them both financials to compete as well as independence. NBC needs a P5 conferences sports to make it worthwhile for them and build their CFB audience. The ACC is locked up through 2036 at least contractually, plus ND knows schools are leaving As soon as possible. Same in the PAC— already down to 10 schools with others leaving and they only get you a sketchy west coast audience anyway. The BIG 12 is stabilized, has teams from the northeast to southeast to Midwest to plains through Texas and out as far as Utah- all time zones covered= value. Can also add PAC schools too.

Media revenue from NBC would be a good thing for the BIG 12 and you don’t admit ND into your conference, but who knows maybe ND would want to be part of the best basketball league. ND added some value to the ACC so any added value wouldn’t be bad.

Don’t see all BIG 12 content going to NBC but probably not necessary and maybe there could be a couple of ND games vs BIG 12 schools to replace ie the ratings from losing OU.

LOL, Notre Dame did the same thing to the ACC that they did to the Big East; used them, lied to them, took valuable bowl spots that could have and should have gone to actual conference members and now is looking at breaking the contract that they signed through 2035......just because they found someone else they want to leech off of.

The reports out so far don’t link the two. ND would be independent, the BIG 12 wouldn’t necessarily partner with ND for anything, they would be attractive to NBC to have P5 games around ND home games To grow the CFB audience for NBC for revenues. Now it’s possible that a lure to the BIg 12 would be some football with Notre Dame to boost the value of BIG 12 media rights, who knows if it would go beyond that Or if that is a part of it. Nothing like the ACC selling it soul to keep schools from leaving.

The overlooked part is ND must know the ACC is falling apart.

Notre Dame will always be relevant. They are more relevant than the new Big 12 will be.

The BIG 12 is relevant still and will continue to be. If this NBC thing happens it’s all good for WVU. More security for WVUs conference.

Obviously some people aren’t interested in that that post on these WVU boards.

Really interesting to see the EXTREME vitriol anytime a potentially positive development for the BIG 12 appears.

The new commissioner must get out ahead on the anti BIG 12 bias that spread over the last decade.

"The reports out so far don’t link the two. ND would be independent, the BIG 12 wouldn’t necessarily partner with ND for anything..."

But of course, that's the way it always starts out.

Well the Big XII to my knowledge is the only conference that willingly allowed one of its members, Texas, to make more than anyone else on top of start it’s own network. So given ND’s desire to be treated differently than everyone else with the insistence on independence, it makes sense that they would hear out the Big XII on filling the Texas sized void in the conference.

This is false.

Every school in the conference allowed each school to make its own third tier deals with a specified amount of content.
Up until just a couple years before the departure of the irrelevant two, these agreements were outside the conferences dealings and were done by the individual schools. Texas and ESpn created an LHn and paid UT whatever, not the BIG 12.

Also left out is that trouble maker for progression with the conference is now the SECs problem.

ND? There’s no mention of anything relating ND or the BIG 12 together except that maybe they’ll have some games on the same network.

If they do it will be good for WVU- so either you aren’t a WVU fan or?

Spoken like someone with a vested interest in ND NOT doing anything with the BIG 12.

Seemed to work out for the ACC ok- got teams like Clemson and FSU to sign on through 2036 and kept schools like BC, Syracuse, Duke, Wake, Pitt, Louisville, GT relevant for awhile more in football too.

But of course now that something might benefit the BIG 12 it’s terrible, horrible, awful, catastrophic even though not even a blurb of. ND joining the BIG 12 in any way? Hmmm wonder who would be interested in that angle?

Some people fall for every BS article related to realignment. NBC's sports portfolio has been shrinking. They shuttered their sports network last year. There not paying big bucks for Big 12 games

If ND doesn't join full time then there's no benefit how did the Big East and Acc end up in the long run with them.

You are claiming there is NO benefit to the BIG 12 if the BIG 12 gets a major contract with NBC to carry BIG 12 football? Really? WTF are you on?

So let's see if I get this right. EVERY article suggesting positive development for the BIG 12 conference is a made up farce, by desperate organizations no matter how big or small, with no money and no idea what's going on, just posting for click bait. They have no knowledge --at least not like message board trolls do--about realignment in college sports. Does that about sum it up?

Wow they must be paying you well if you think anyone will actually buy your bunk but you are just going to keep posting it.

There is no such thing as a potentially positive development. It either happens or it doesn't. The overwhelming majority of what gets written never happens. You of all people should know this by now. An expansion article to you is what crack is to a crack head

It all comes down to money, no matter how you slice it. Most will agree.

Can WVU keep up? The short and unpopular answer is unequivocally NO.

College sports was ruined the moment they started paying players and destroyed the sport with the transfer portal.

In no world can WVU compete with the money flowing through the likes of Ohio State, Texas, Michigan...etc.

What chance WVU had with the way college sports supposed to be, which was difficult already, has been destroyed by turning college sports into just another level of pro sports. Think of West Virginia's pro sports teams. 😬

College sports are dead, unless you're a Texas, Ohio State, Notre Dame...etc.

Thems the facts.

I was an avid season ticket holder since 2001. Against all odds, I was a passionate WVU supporter. No longer.

They have stripped all hopes of WVU being even remotely relevant, by turning college sports pro.

100% correct. It’s ruined. Only a blind and delusional person could think WVU has a chance. Nor does probably 95% of all D1 schools out there. Once the glitter wears off in 2-3 years, everyone is gonna get sick of watching this shit.

I see shills pouring in to spread lies and misinformation about WVU and the BIG 12.

Attack me with bs all you want, pretend reality isn’t reality in your desperation to accomplish your bosses wishes- death to WVU and the BIG 12. Soon though there will be negotiations, probably some more expansion, probably end of a league or two ( PAC and Acc). New media companies will come calling and then things will settle down again while those trying to blow everything up for the benefit of a few go back to the drawing board to concoct another world takeover.

The Big Ten and SEC will make a lot of money but so will the BIg 12 in the end.

WVU will still be able to compete for a national championship from out of the BIG 12 conference and every now and then some terrific athletes will play for WVU and win lots of games too- just as it has always been.

WVU fans will keep attending and watching games no matter the changes going on around them.

The great players will transfer out immediately. It’s already happening. It’s over.

Schools can only accept a certain number of athletes. Even in the Sec and Big, there are haves and have nots. Indiana, Rutgers etc don’t have the resources Ohio State and Michigan do. Alabama has more resources than just a few other SEC programs.

But these schools are not the ones paying the players NIL money. Outside entities are.

So as far as the schools it’s not much different than before. Ohio State and Alabama for example have always been having boosters giving extra gifts to get the top athletes. Cars, money handshakes etc etc. Occasionally caught, rarely punished.

Now the boosters and local companies can do what they want legally. Some players will absolutely keep going to the schools that have been the most propped up, but not all of them.

WVUs boosters may have to try harder since corrupt politicians in WV have eliminated any business or opportunities for businesses there. They’ll have to make sure boosters and businesses from a much broader area can secure NIL deals. But WVU will get some good to great players still because there are more of them than deals in just two conferences and an athlete doesn’t care that Minnesota gets $100,000,000 vs WVU getting $70 plus million from respective conferences— because they won’t see a dime of that money anyway.

Lmao Except now Rutgers and Vanderbilt have much more resources than WVU. And your top players will transfer out. WVU just lost their top defensive player from last year. The days of a Pat White here 4 years are over.

And please show me where corrupt WV politicians have stopped business opportunities in WV. The state is now under Republican leadership and fixing decades of mismanagement from democrat politicians.

Not yet they don’t. And there hasn’t been a WVU player transferring to Vandy or Rutgers.

And some haven’t left- most—not due to NIL, but because they were unhappy with staff and state of the program.

Since negotiations technically cannot start for another 18 months on the contract with ESPN/FOX, Texas Oklahoma early exit could help move that timeline up. NBC could reach out to the big 12 and talk to them all they want and show interest.

If the BIG 12 creates a new contract now, Ou and UT are free and clear of the hundreds of millions they owe the league.

A day or two ago, about the same time the BIG 12 ended merger talks with the PAC, Ou and Ut formally announced neither will leave until 2025.
