I read you guys opinions often and I dont understand all the disappointment with Holgy. I could easily see you winning the last five games to go 8-4. If that happens will that placate most of you? I think your schedule set up for a losing streak. The only game you could have won was Ok. State. Not trolling just curious as I think he deserves another season especially with all the other coaching vacancies.

Well, right off, when a well meaning friend comes along and attempts to make me feel better by saying we had no chance in three games, I really don't feel better.

I'm more sad that we've sunk to the point where people say we shouldn't feel bad because we now suck so much we have no chance in a quarter of our games.

We've beaten both Baylor (X2) and TCU and played OU competitively in the recent past. All of us have had the same opportunity to get better or worse. So, that outsiders now see us as being so far below them now that it's unrealistic to expect us to compete leads me to the conclusion that one of these programs is headed in the wrong direction, hard and fast.

Good post.....even if we win out what you wrote will ring true.

I didnt mean to imply you had no chance to win, just not a good one.. But I get your point. WVU is in a tough spot being such an outlayer geographically. ACC should have brought you in and who knows still might. Would be a much better fit and would ensure rivalry games with both Pitt and Vtech. Eventually Texas will get back to being Texas, and with Baylor, TCU, OK, the top is crowded and will be difficult to break into. I think this game with Ttech is crucial for Holgy, WVU is better and should win going away.

No, 8-4 is not acceptable even if we just won 3 straight NT's. I am not saying fire the coach, but at WVU (realistic or not) we EXPECT to win 10+ games per year and compete for NT's regularly. And that is what we should EXPECT, realizing that we might not get it and then decide on coaching changes.

No, I don't expect 10+ wins to be the norm. Counting bowl games we should win 10+ about as often as we used to win 9+ when we played 11 game regular seasons and overall schedules were about as difficult as the Big 12 is now. 2004-11 was a scheduling anomaly and easier than what we face now.

What I do expect is to have very few bad years (losing conference records, multiple blowout losses) and teams that even in the down years don't look poorly prepared, undisciplined and lacking in basic fundamentals.

11-20 in conference is unacceptable when that includes 9 games against the likes of Kansas, ISU and TTU. A losing record against Power 5 completion over a multi-year period is unacceptable. Having our clocks cleaned an a regular basis is not acceptable.

Most of all, looking like a very poorly coached team all the time for years in a row is not acceptable.

Good grief!! You are a freshman. Expecting to win ten games and competing for a NC regularly is not in the WVU bloodline. We were blessed with ten win seasons during the RR era however that does not make ten wins the minimum for an acceptable season. And really, how many schools regularly compete for the NC? I love WVU but we are not one of the elite programs in the country. I would like for us to be a consistently good program with some great teams every now and then, but who wouldn't? What I don't like is a team that cannot get out of its own way; a team that has no identity; a team that is undisciplined; a team that cannot master the most fundamental of plays...catching and returning a punt; and I do not like a coach that high fives the opposition while they are kicking our butts!! To me 8-4 under Holgorsen sounds great but we can do better than 8-4 and Holgorsen.

Nailed it!

Our previous coach won 9 games every season and that was not enough in the BE. He was expected to win at least 10 every year. I get that and understand the competition is tougher but we still should be able to expect our team to win 8 games every year and beat a team or two we are not supposed to. We still have a chance at the 8 wins, albeit not likely, but the opportunity to beat someone we are not supposed to is gone. Every other team on the schedule we should beat. Until last Thursday I would say I do expect to beat every team left on our schedule but we were so undisciplined in our last game, it is tough to tell.

I agree that WV has a chance to win the remainder of schedule games. But, I know for a fact that the fans of the remaining teams feel just like the fans at WV do. I would be happy if WV finishes at least 7-5 with a big win over the Longhorns of Texas! I plan to attend the bowl game that such a win loss record would land us. Now, let's bring on the Mountaineers.

Looking at the rest of our games through non-prescription WVU glasses, I see Kansas as a sure win, Texas, Iowa St and K-State as tossups, and we will be an underdog to TT......

I don't understand being named the favorite in this game, but great. There should be no excuses accepted.

Should've beat osu. We literally gave that game away
But as has been said repeatedly- it's not just that we lost,
It's that we've been flat out a dumpster fire and been dominated. It's been a fail on all three phases.

WVU’s double-digit victories seasons:

1922 Clarence “Doc” Spears 10-0-1 (first season without a loss)

1969 Jim Carlen 10-1

1988 Don Nehlen 11-1

1993 Don Nehlen 11-1

2005 Rich Rodriguez 11-1

2006 Rich Rodriguez 11-2

2007 Rich Rodriguez 11-2

2011 Dana Holgorsen 10-3

That’s EIGHT times in 125 years (counting 2015, which isn’t going to be double-digit victories). And that’s what we expect from a coach, or we want him fired? Sure, that’s four times in the past 11 seasons, including 2015, so maybe it’s what happened lately that has us spoiled.

And Rich Rodriguez did it THREE YEARS IN A ROW! And yet there are those who don’t want him to return to WVU.

If Oliver Luck was the WVU AD when Rich was here, Rich would have gotten the facilities improvements he wanted and might have stayed to 21 years, like Nehlen.

Why don't you do the same for 20 and 30 point losses? In just 5 years, DH has lost 11 games by over 30 points and 6 of those were 30 point loses? Compare those to previous coaches.

Oh boy! Those stats and facts keep getting in the way. I think history (stats and facts) will show this regime one of the worst in WVU history. Holgorsen was not ready to be a head coach and continues to fail at even the simplest of of task.

Sure, most fans would feel better if the team could win the last 5 games and go 8-4....but most realistically believe that it is just as possible to go 0-5 and finish at 3-9. Lord I hope that doesn't happen, but I have a fear that the team won't bounce back and win enough games to even make a bowl game.

I also understand why some fans would like to see RR return to WVU. They long for the success he had with Pat White, and Steve Slaton. If I remember correctly though, wasn't RR's offense fairly new at that time....being labeled as gimmicky? I mean, it wasn't new, but there certainly were not many teams across the country that used it compared to now. In conjunction with that, I pose that most defenses of those days were not nearly as equipped to deal with that kind of offense (i.e. a logical explanation for some of RR's success running it.....that and having Pat and Steve toting the ball).......now fast forward to today. It seems like most teams are running a spread offense or some variant of it and the defenses around the country have been playing against it for several years now. That being said, unless RR recruits players with the same dynamic that Pat / Steve had or that Baylor and TCU currently has, do you think he would be posting the same variety of win/loss records in the B12 that he did in the BE several years ago? While he may have some degree of success (maybe even more than Dana), I have a hard time imagining that simply having him on board again would result in 10-11 win seasons year in and out in the B12....maybe occasionally, but not regularly.

I had hoped to see more out of Holgersen by now, but I can remember hearing the same sort of complaints and grumblings about RR back when he was here and would lose......."stupid play calling or poor clock management" were the biggest complaints in those days too.

I just think that if WVU brings RR back, then they are moving backward not forward. If he came back on board, it would only be a short period of time before the masses wearing rose colored glasses would have heartburn over not seeing 10-11 win seasons like the good 'ole days. If Holgorsen has reached his ceiling and needs to be replaced, I hope for a fresh face. One with a proven record in a head coaching position.....not just a coordinator that wants a chance to be a head coach. Who would that coach be..............beats me!

Absolutely this (the "looking like a very poorly coached team all the time for years in a row is not acceptable." part, anyway.)
