I know it isn’t sexy, but philosophically here is what we are asking our offense to do:
1. Control the clock. This inherently makes the games lower scoring. The opponent gets fewer possessions, we get fewer possessions. It also rests our defense, making them more effective when they are on the field. It’s also extremely frustrating for opposing teams like TT who want to go fast, make it a shoot out, etc. it doesn’t take a whole lot of digging in your noggin to remember the game this was done to us.
2. Capitalize on opponent miscues and red zone attempts. If they turn it over or you get a short field make sure you walk away with points.
3. Extend drives when the yards to the stick are 2 yards or less no matter the down.
4. Don’t make mistakes. If you have fewer possessions you can’t cough it up.
5. Power play will grind down a defenses front 7. It has made our tight end passes wayyyy more effective.
6. It’s not that our QBs are ineffective in the pass game, it’s that our receivers are dropping critical balls.
