Chris Brown started getting interested in football strategy as a high schooler in the 1990s, when he attended football camps at places like Tulane and Kentucky.
At Tulane’s camp, his coach was Rich Rodriguez, and at Kentucky, his coach was Mike Leach.

When Dana Holgorsen and Kingsbury were at Houston, they had a couple 1,000-yard rushers with Kevin Sumlin. TCU was an effective running team last year and Baylor runs the ball effectively. You can clearly do it.

As the story goes, he hired Dana Holgorsen and said, “I want to run the Texas Tech offense but I want to do it at that West Virginia tempo and run it really, really fast.” Then of course, Kliff Kingsbury was a graduate assistant on that staff. Dana sort of did that, put in some of his own wrinkles."

That Houston, Sumlin-Kingsbury thing, a lot of the guys in the Big 12 are running that version of it. It’s like the “Holgo-raid.” Maybe it gives him too much credit, but he was at that turning point.
