WVSPORTS.COM Podcast: Reacting to West Virginia being left OUT of the NCAA Tournament

It’s disheartening, I really think this team deserved to hang an NCAA banner, but realistically they were an overachieving team that was a one man show. They were not a threat for a deep run IMO, the magic they put together in Phog Allen after Tucker went down was short lived and they became the Small show that needed him to carry us to wins which he did enough to complete the resume of an NCAA Team but overall this team is not threatening to big teams and outside of just a “you never know” factor didn’t have a realistic path to any serious noise in this tournament.

Of course I wanted to see us out there, but if we were I think we would have had a really tough go in the first four or against any potential 6 or 7 seed.

It's not that we didn't get in that bothers me. It's the allowing of 14 of 16 SEC teams get in. Allowing a UNC team with 1-12 quad 1 record in over us. That's disturbing there. Texas was 6-12 in their conference and lost to last place South Carolina who was 2-16.

End of the day, if you say without Tucker we go 1-2 in Atlantis and take away 2 neutral court Q1 wins, we are suddenly not a tournament team. I strongly believe this is what the committee did, because it’s the only way it makes sense to omit us from the field.

That sounds like they were looking for excuses to leave us out. That is not the criteria they say they use and it shouldn't be.

Make sense of why you get 14 teams out of 16 from one conference in. No conference should ever get more than 10.

There is historical precedence for dinging a team for not having their best player available. It sucks and it’s stupid because a whole season shouldn’t be shortchanged due to injury. Like you can’t kick the Lakers out of the playoffs if on the last night of the season LeBron goes out. But the NCAA postseason is subjective so you get subjective seeding and omissions.

If the NET makes it justifiable then it can be. There have been seasons where the Big XII and Big East have had massive numbers of teams participate when we have been a member.

And those two conferences didn't deserve that many either. (Those 2 didn't have 14 of 16 teams make it in)

Which is it? Players playing or not playing or NET ratings.

It's all political if you pick and choose what and how a team gets an invite.

End of the day, all of the bubble teams, ourselves included are fighting for the title of the 44th or so best team. There is not a lot of room for any of the bubble teams to bitch. They have quite literally had countless opportunities to prove their worth.

I don’t doubt it’s true. UNC’s AD led the committee and UNC magically gets into the First Four. But play yourself out of the line of fire.

This is a total bullshit way of ruling a team in or out. Tucker didn't play in any conference game.

Injuries can help or hurt teams depending on how the selection committee views each individual situation, as evidenced by its decision to omit West Virginia from the 68-team field on Sunday. Committee Vice Chair Bubba Cunningham told CBS that WVU's exclusion was made because star Tucker DeVries, who is injured and has not played since December, would not be available.

Seems ISU knows how to play game....

Moments after Iowa State earned a No. 3 seed in the 2025 NCAA Tournament on Sunday evening, Cyclones coach T.J. Otzelberger in a press conference announced stunning news that senior guard Keshon Gilbert, the team's second-leading scorer and leader in assists and minutes, will not be available for the Big Dance.

I agree but this is the way the NCAA rolls. Our season basically ended in December, we would have needed to go 12-8 in conference without our 2nd gun to be a lock.

Sad thing is we should have won at least 3 of those 10 games we lost. But then again probably should have lost 3 of those 10 games we won.

Still think they were using that as an excuse. Because winning 10 conference games without Tucker speaks volumes to me.

WVU with Tucker 9-2 without him 10-10.

ISU with star player Gilbert 15-1 without Gilbert 9-8.

Gilbert will not return for tournament.

It's obvious without Gilbert they are not worthy of a bid.

LOL
