Pete’s betting on baseball was bad, maybe even unforgivable, but I never cared at all about it because of the way he played the game. So few have played that hard with such passion day after day after day. But given the chance hundreds of times to apologize properly for his bad actions that hurt the sport he loved and “make things right” Pete always failed (epically). But again, I never cared, I just appreciated what he did between the lines which was incredible.
Rich rod is the same type. Given 17 years to properly apologize he didn’t even try to do it until it was gonna serve him. And just like Pete, he gave an almost non apology taking very little responsibility. “It was a mistake to leave”, come on! But what changed with me yesterday is that I no longer care what he did - I want the guy with uncompromising passion to lead and win.
If rich road and Pete didn’t have their shortcomings with ego and stubbornness, etc., they probably wouldn’t be as good in the things the excel in. Like so many business leaders, coaches, etc., I guess you need to accept the bad personality traits to get the greatness.
