Tim Tebow was a great college QB, but not an NFL QB. We don't need future NFL QBs here, just good college QBS.
In this system we do need an NFL QB. A good college QB would work if we ran the read option again.
Can you provide an example or examples to support you statement? So, do you think that Skyler is a future NFL QB? Geno is still in the NFL for now, but it's possible he won't be next season. So, are you saying we need a future starting NFL QB, or just a QB who gets on an NFL team, but really doesn't play much, if any?
Plenty of good college QB's can run an Air Raid system. Trickett ran it well, hes not close to a NFL QB. Besides, we don't even really run the Air Raid anymore.
He didnt run it "well", we finished 7-5 in the regular season and the wheels fell off for Trickett, Howard was actually playing at a higher level than Trickett at the tail end of the year. He had a couple good games, and Trickett was a decent college QB but we cannot do anything other than win 6-8 games with QBs like Trickett and Howard. We need a QB on an NFL level to produce high level results on offense. In turn, as a team, to achieve high level results, we need an NFL QB and a defense that doesnt finish 120th (Geno's senior season) in order to compete at a high level in this conference.
We dont run the air raid this year because Holgorsen would have been a fool to turn away from our backfield of Shell and Smallwood and put the season in the hands of Howard and our inexperienced WRs. I guarantee Holgorsen didnt come here intent on making us a run heavy team that operates out of the Shotgun.
You know darn well Trickett's production decreased the very moment after his head was spiked off the turf against TCU. Look at his numbers, right up until that play happened and tell me he didn't run the system well - the week before he beat Baylor, and had a good game against Alabama.
If you don't want to have an honest conversation, lets not have one at all.
I get it - You want a NFL level QB, NFL level WR's, a Defense filled with NFL talent, a offensive line full of future NFL HOF's, ect. - lets make it happen.
What's he's trying to say is he wants the best college QB to ever play, who happens to become the best NFL QB to ever play. Then WVU can enjoy a few undefeated seasons and some national championships. To be honest, I'm not sure why Dana just doesn't go make this happen?

I guess you're not going to answer the questions, but I'll give you the replies anyway. Geno is apparently not a starting NFL QB, yet he ran Dana's system quite well. ASU played Cal the last game of the season, and their QB, Goff, is regarded as an NFL QB. He threw for 5 TDs and 542 yards against ASU. Skyler threw for 5 TDs and 532 yds against ASU. I don't think anyone is suggesting Skyler will see much playing time in the NFL, yet his game stats were virtually identical to Goff's. It doesn't take a future NFL QB to successfully run Dana's system.
Since you can't support your position on the facts, it's probably time to resort to ad hominem.
In this system we do need an NFL QB in order to compete for a B12 championship and that may not be enough with Dana at the helm (see Geno). A good college QB would work if we ran the read option again.
If we could get a team that is strong, fast, smart, and never made a mistake.. we'd be set.
I honestly didnt even read your post since you didnt quote mine originally. No, Skylar is not an NFL QB, he is an okay college QB, dime a dozen. Geno is an NFL QB, he was drafted in the 2nd round, is currently on an NFL roster, and will 100% be on an NFL roster next year albeit likely with someone else, he ran the system at a high level, we unfortunately did not have a defense to back him, Tavon, and Stedman up. My position is we need a QB that will be good enough to go pro in order to obtain high level results on offense. That is supported based on throughout DH's tenure as an OC and HC his offense was only elite with a QB that would eventually be on an NFL roster. With Trickett and Howard we achieved inconsistent results and an overall average Big XII offense. When we hired Holgorsen we likely expected at some point he would be able to bring in a QB who would be able to run his system at a high level, it just never happened.
As for your assertion that because Goff and Howard had a similar statline against the same opponent, somehow proves something, Im at a loss for what that is exactly supposed to prove other than two guys lit up a porous defense, one of them happens to be a future first round pick, the other not so much. The NFL scouts will not be pointing to Goff's game against ASU as to why he will succeed at the next level.

Geno is not playing, was not highly regarded as a draftee, was highly criticized with the Jets, and doesn't appear to be a starting QB at this point in time. There's a fair chance he won't be picked-up next season. I like Geno and I wish him the best.
So let's see. It's irrelevant that ASU played Cal and WVU back to back, the QBs had comparable performances, and Skyler had better stats than any other QB that played ASU this year, including Cody Kessler and Josh Rosen. I think that's less an indicator of Skyler's mediocrity, and more an indicator of you lack of objectivity.
I think it's time to put you on ignore.
