I gotta' tell you, I myself thought some of GMJR's moves this year were pretty good; particularly the Perron trade.
Of course, that one has started to take on a fair amount of stink in the past month. Not so much because he (like the rest of the team) has fallen off the earth offensively, but because how much worse
if the Pens drop out of the playoffs (and the Oil's #1 pick therefore elevates into the middle teens). I also didn't have any problem with the Winnik trade, even if they did have to move a #2. I myself think they will attempt to resign him in the off-season (though he
may deserve to be fined for that dumb ass penalty yesterday which put the Flyers back into the game)

well out on Lovejoy deal; though, if they truly felt as though there was a legitimate off-ice reason to move Despres, you're kind-of forced to yield to the decision from the outside looking in. However, I did feel JR got a short-changed on the deal, though, and felt as though he should have held out to add some kind of pick from Anaheim in return. But would having gotten, say, a #3 from the Ducks changed the deal's geometry
that much ?? And, aside the fact I
was a Bortuzzo fan emotionally, I honestly have no idea yet if the deal for Cole was good or not.
As for Kunitz, there was (and remains) zero market for him for two
more seasons at a cap hit close to $4 million. I know there's been a lot of scuttlebutt he's not happy with the team anymore......not sure if it's about Johnston or GMJR.....but he's never struck me as the kind of old vet who would take a powder to prove something political. Regardless, the Pens are almost assuredly stuck with him for the remainder of his contract (unless they can find a trade partner with a player with a similarly bad contract).
But even if they squeeze into the playoffs, I think most of us now agree they're one and done (though, I honestly think they'd have at least a chance against an overrated Montreal). After all, they can't score anyway; which mitigates the concerns of having the best in the business in the other net. And who knows; if Sid and Geno (and perhaps one or two others) decide to show up.......but its hard to see how this team goes anywhere without 3 of their 4 best D-men (that is, unless MAF all-of-a-sudden starts pitching shutouts again).
