OT: How bad is Virginia Tech's program?

They've lost five of the last six to Pitt.
Another good question is how many they have lost to ECU over the last 6-8 years.

Well, looks like VT has lost three of the last seven by a margin of 7 points or less.

I have been known to pick on Beamer in the past, but he just doesn't look like a well man. Maybe age is catching up with him. He will turn 69 next month. He also had throat surgery late last year, undisclosed reason. Here is an article with a picture of him from last season; compare it to one from this year. He doesn't look well at all.

It's pretty obvious he's lost his edge and needs to step down. But, like Dandy Don, he's not ready and thinks he can fix the problem. And since he made them what they are today, he'll leave on his terms, not the AD's.

Beamer and other coaches (Paterno comes to mind) won't step down for a number of reasons. Number 1..........they think they are holy and above the other folks in the world. Adoring fans made them that way. Number 2...........the money is beyond belief. Who would quit a job paying millions? Adoring fans made the money happen.

The money argument is a valid one. Why would Beamer, with a ton of history in Blacksburg, resign/retire as long as VT is paying him millions? It will take a President with some bravado to recruit a younger and more dynamic replacement and graciously show Beamer the door.

"Look at me, I'm making millions, East Carolina was just an exhibition."

As bad as VPI has been, Mike London and UVA are still winless vs the Hokies since 2003.

How does London still have a job since in addition to his dismal overall record, he's 0-5 vs VPI?

To put it another way, Tennessee has lost to Florida 11 straight times and they're not in the same State and the States are separated by like Georgia & SC, and Butch Jones is staring down the barrel at 3 more consecutive losses (Arkansas, UGA, BAMA) and getting Derrick Dooley'd.

As for VPI, they've had injuries at qb, and that can kill any programs chances. Plus that Logan Thomas experiment wasn't too bright. Also Beamer ball was effective until everyone realized 'lets block on punts and spread people out!' Translation nobody is blocking punts like 10+ years ago.
