Once again, we have a horse with the first two components of the triple crown under its belt with victories in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness*. I'm expecting, once again, for American Pharaoh to falter in the Belmont and have another Triple Crown promise fall flat on its face.
Why is this?
Is the Belmont a much longer track with a different consistency that has these horses suddenly peter out and some random underdog take the victory? There has been several horses in the past decade and a half alone that have won the first two legs and lost the Belmont.
* - If anyone hasn't seen @DvlDog4WVU outfit for the Preakness this past weekend, you missed out. I hate using the word epic, but that's exactly what it was.
