That is about PAR for the course in the Deep South schools. Coaches in Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina ect make great money and yes a ton makes six figures

Is this coach required to also teach ?

Many states pay educators too much imo (while many pay too little)...but point being is I'm wondering if this is a stacked salary (aka he's doing two jobs).

well I'm not a teacher but, I would hope that someone teaching Science or Math would be paid more than some dude blowing a whistle making you run laps around a gym

I think it's mostly about years in the school district.

In WV it is about years experience and advanced degree. There is no difference in fields - or level elementary, middle or high school. (As far as I am concerned middle school teachers should get combat pay - I will not sub at that level, I will not work elementary either but that is a different story)

LOL! My Mom did a short stint as a middle school principal. She went back to the elementary school level when corporal punishment was banned. She used to light those hormone addled heathens up.

There are a lot of school systems who won't let you coach if you don't teach.

There's a pile of money to be made on the side if you're a good HS coach. Boosters and recruiters see to that. Want to to talk to Jimmy Ray? Coach Ed can make it happen if you can help him make a few car payments. Bring an envelope full of small bills and he'll give you 20 minutes in the locker room with him after the game. Not you, Sandusky.
