Just listened to a good interview with the new basketball coach and can’t help but wonder if Baker didn’t mess up not giving him like a 3 year deal with a buyout that we could easily escape from vs the 1 year position he has. Certainly can’t help with recruiting efforts of high school kids. I know we can build through the portal quickly but just came away fairly impressed with his interview that I feel like the risk vs reward in a better commitment wouldn’t have hurt the program in the longrun as much as it might help it

He has never been a HC before. His staff has 2 experienced guys and rest are coaching for first time and you want to lock him down with a huge deal and buyout. Do you want to be in same situation as football team?

If he begins winning Big and staff turns out to be great then he can be hired as head coach and not interim head coach.

He needs to prove himself first.

That’s why I mentioned the buyout being one we can easily escape from. Of course he may not have been interested in signing such a deal, but it was just something that I was thinking about

Easily escape is not what I mean. I mean a buyout we can easily pay. Some small trivial amount. Not multi millions for an unproven coach

He doesn't need to win big this year. Just needs to have a good season (over .500) to prove he is worth signing a contract with reasonable terms such as a 5 year. Personally, I expect that to happen.

I said it before on here. It was a terrible mess and I approve of the manner Baker handled it. I have been pleased with Eilert and his actions along with his comments to date. He has my full support this upcoming season.

I think he needs to be above .500 in Big 12 as well.

I like everything he's said so far, and I love the way this roster looks. The best thing for WVU at this point is for Josh to thrive and become a great HC. Since we kind of got stuck with the dude because our admin is stupid, it would be amazing for him to really work out and become a legend.
