GAME THREAD Official Game Thread -- WVU vs Texas

I used up my supply of 4 letter words, the dogs are hiding and the TV may be broken.

Lot of words to describe performance tonight:

Awful

Embarrassing

Lousy

Dreadful

Miserable

Horrible

Crummy

Atrocious

Stinking

Apalling

Hideous

Huggins should be thinking one word about this performance:

Treadmill

And seriously, can't somebody coach free-throw shooting? I've seen more bad mechanics on these guys than from a 7th-grade team. No excuse to see guys starting their shooting motion around their knees, their right forearm crossing their face and almost horizontal to the ground, the ball going behind their head, etc. I know free-throw shooting generally sucks these days (blame the 3-point line for that) but it's embarrassing how poor this team is and how bad the mechanics are.

Mechanics isn't the issue. You aren't changing these guys mechanics and expecting to see a huge difference right now. Not everyone has a sweet jump shot like Curry. I've seen many broken shots but good FT percentages to know that it's not HOW you shoot it, but more of the EFFORT in which you shoot it.

Bad free-throw mechanics have led to 13 consecutive games in which we've shot less than 71 percent from the line. Teams are starting to figure out that it's better to foul our bigs (and some guards) than give up a easy bucket. This is something that must be improved and the first place to start is simple mechanics. Many high school girls teams have much better mechanics (and percentages) than this team.

So, you think that at this point, the team should fold up the tent and work on "mechanic changes"? You obviously have never played or coached the game at a high level. Because this is precisely what someone who has never done either would say. It isn't as easy as you say. Look at Tiger Woods in golf. Changed his swing, and changed it again, and again, and again. His swing prior to the changes wasn't great, but it got the job done. If you look at the misses tonight, Macon isn't a good FT shooter. You think he should knock down 75%? It isn't happening no matter what you change. Miles, Carter, Williams....their misses tonight are usually rare. They have been pretty good at the FT line. Just a bad night. Holton's shot is not good at all, mechanics wise. Yet, he knocks down FT's with his poor mechanics. Hmm.....

Spread..................you are correct. It is apparent that you know the proper shooting motion for free throws. How in the heck could a coaching staff stand and watch his team employ such bad mechanics while at the line and never coach and demand them to use proper technique?
