I don't think the problem is that DW plays for himself. He just doesn't seem to be able to read the game at game speed.
The knock on DW in the not too distant past was that he took too long to either pass the ball or shoot/make a move to the basket. Sometimes he still does that. But it now often seems as if he is trying to overcome the tendency to stand there with the ball in his hands and he tries to quickly make things happen that are not there.
It's too bad. But either way he is showing a tendency of not being able to quickly read the situation and do the right thing (pass, shoot, move to basket).
After his first turnover last night he goes down the floor on defense and stands in the lane near the basket completely oblivious to the KSU guy who easily scores a layup. Then he goes down and turns the ball over again. His head is not in the game. It's way too wrapped up in his own inability to see what is going on at game speed.
Will he overcome this (his tendency to not read things at game speed)? Or will this continue to be a growing source of frustration that leads to more and more inept play?
Who knows? Time will tell.
