Fair catch inside the 25 and you get the ball on the 25 no matter where you catch it.

TD kickoff returns may be a thing of the past. Why risk it when you get it on the 25?

WVU rarely gets past the 25 anyway so this rule is a gift to the Mountaineers.

A “no punt return”rule would help WVU immensely. We have mostly sucked at it for the past 10 years.

Tavon would be the exception.

If true, this could really help teams with poor coverage teams like WVU has had in the past and hurt teams with dangerous return guys. Just kick a sky ball to around the 25 and give your coverage team a better chance to contain or force a fair catch.

WVU averaged 24.5 yards per kickoff return last season.....

Simms, who fielded 31/40 of those kickoffs, averaged over 26 yards

Even if our players fielded the kick at the 1 inch line....... we made it, on average, to the 25

great thread

SO IF WE FAIR CATCH EVERY KICKOFF WE'LL AVERAGE A HALF-YARD BETTER?

You just admitted you don’t watch kickoffs apparently.... congrats

Assuming every catch is fielded in or at the goal line, are we? tisk tisk tisk... such amateur mistake by a “paid sports expert”

If WVU field the kick in the field of play, it averages more than the 25 yard line

Not to mention that when Marcus Simms fields it, WVU gets on average over 26 yards.....

So the next thing will be no punts. Put the ball at the 25. Then perhaps no passing rule because receivers are at a disadvantage. Only allowed to run. Then it will be to much a risk on RB / QB or any hitting. Let's put a flag in their pockets. The flag gets pulled you are tackled. Touching the body at all will result in the ball being moved back to the 25 yard line. Toddler football can be fun.

This false fear needs to stop...

They are trying to control the single most violent play in the game, that’s all

The punt return might be even worse. At least the KR has a chance to see what’s ahead before the other team is on him. A PR usually has about 0.1 sec to decide if he is ready to get blown up or not.

I think 5 years from now we see both get legislated out.

WVU rarely stops anyone before the 25 anyway so this rule is a gift to the Mountaineer

I fixed it for you

WVU ranked 15th last year in kickoff returns last year with an avg of 24.33
They ranked 43 in Kickoff return defense with 19.64 avg.

Only 7 teams averaged 25 yards and up in Kickoff returns last year.
