WVU Release Neal Brown contract extension

You know I thought Dec 1, 2007 was the worst football feeling ever for me as a WVU alum and fan. It was just a bad, no the worst loss & no other way to say it. This Dec 1st Some fifteen years later I feel the brass, nah that ain’t the right word cause clearly their cajones are paper mache, the leadership, nah definitely that ain’t the word either cause there’s no flipping leadership there, let’s say the people in Stewart Hall making the most money have sent a LOUD message saying we don’t give a $#!+ about football or the fans or the alums who have supported this University for decades.

It is obvious they don’t have a clue that Neal Brown is gonna be a disaster next year AGAIN. I saw a few of his practices in year 1 and his disastrous 4 years and the stupid decisions he’s made complied with no discipline or fundamentals and all I will say he has been consistent through 4 seasons, consistently TERRIBLE. It won’t get better even if Oklahoma and Texas are off the schedule next season. There still won’t be an Ah Ha moment.

Neal doesn’t get WVU football either. Anyone stupid enough to get caught on a hot mic prior to kickoff in the Backyard Brawl saying “Lot of hype for just one game” clearly doesn’t get WVU football. How is it these Stewart Hall @$$ holes or F$&@ING bean counters don’t get this $#!+? I will bet they get it next season when they have the lowest season ticket sales in the history of New Mountaineer Field.

I was rightly told in September by a large financial booster that he knew Shane was fired before seasons end regardless of his new contract. He was correct there. He also told me the target being pursued was Hugh Freeze. I didn’t want to jinx it so I didn’t say. Now I don’t know what happened or maybe it was not EVER EVEN a possibility from Freeze who played Auburn like a banjo. Not since Shane got played by Neal have I seen a that kind of crazy.

With all that said I will say this. I hope to be back here one day to play Pick’m if they ever fire these SOBs. Then again maybe the dumb @$$es give him another extension cause the BS I kept hearing before was “A head coach can’t recruit with only a 4 year contract.”

Oh and one more thing from the bottom of my heart, F$&@ You Shane Lyons. You F$&@ING Dumb @$$. You have ruined WVU football for likely at least 8 years minimum.

I ain’t been here in a LONG time

What’s the lesson in all this? Don’t give out contract extensions to any coach that ain’t earned it. More importantly don’t have a joke and a dumb ass for a President you ran off 40 years ago and/or an AD that’s a complete joke. WVU still has that btw.

6 seasons, over 70 games, and not even ONE MARQUI Statement Victory or Not even one week in the Top 25. Brown has what 31 victories and 35 losses vs FBS schools and by the time it’s over WVU will pay him over $30 million over 9 years for 6 sub par NOTHING SPECIAL seasons and these 31 wins. In year 6 the best victory was against a school with 6 wins. WVU should hire his agent to do WVU contracts or better yet tar and feather the idiots still left who signed off on these moronic deals (Gee, Alsop, Baker).

The worst part in all this: Curt Cignetti, a WVU Alum & QB whose Dad (Frank Sr) coached here & still has family in Morgantown, coached his first game at JMU against Neal Brown at WVU when that was his first game in 2109. WVU squeaked by 20-13. Yeah WVU could have had Curt Cignetti but they hired the stat guy instead. The result is it’s gonna be a minimum 8 year drought or lost in the wilderness of nothing because of it.

Oh and Rocco Becht, son of a WVU HOFer is taking Iowa State to the Big XII Title Game and likely playoffs and WVU didn’t even offer.

2019 was my last year as a season ticket holder and donor. There’s a lot of people like that too. If they mess up the next hire, they’ll pay for it for over a decade from now.

Just noticed there’s a similarity in appearance between Jim Jones and Neal Brown

Looks like this thread aged well. I never touched it when it was first posted because honestly I wasnt really hot on the extension idea at that point, but still had high hopes for Brown.

Right now this contract extension looks like a moronic thing to do by Shayne Lyons. I wish it would've never happened. It doesnt matter how good his recruiting classes are, the dude is a dud. I mean how long did it take for him to have one of his signature idiot timeouts early in the game in the ass whipping against Baylor? He's just not good enough to run a tight ship and be a P5 coach. This team has no identity or personality. After 2.5 years, it should be showing something. We get worse each year tho. The sooner he leaves the better. He's setting this program back.

Preach it brother lol 😆

It all comes down to this,

1.) does WVU want to compete for Big 12 championships and beyond

2.) will they commit to paying for it

Everyone can complain (including myself) about Neal Brown and the last 6 years, but WVU got exactly what he was worth. The bottom of the Big 12 annually. Which is exactly where his contract AND buyout rank in this conference.

WVU and the fans whining about his buyout being so high are out of touch with reality. While those millions seem excessive, it’s really not in the current landscape. His contract and buyout are both ranked 12th highest out the 16 members of the Big 12. If they can’t afford that, they have 2 options. 1.). Keep floundering with Neal Brown or another similar low budget HC at the bottom of the league or 2.). Leave the Big 12 and join a Group of 5 conference

Seems they are waiting until the next round of realignment and potential expansion has passed. The BIG 12 current contracts will be up for renewal in 2025.

If Brown does not turn around the lousy coaching effort so far then WVU football and athletics could be in huge trouble.
What indication is there of us getting better next year? I am interested in how we should expect improvement.

There isn't. In fact, I will project no more than 4 wins with any new coach. No more than 7 wins with Brown staying.
