- It was the first year of the "New Kids on the Court" recruiting class of Mike Boyd, PG Greene, Lawrence Pollard, Ricky Robinson, and Phil Wilson. Gale had promised an up-tempo style of basketball with this new crew, and he had come through with an early 90-85 win over Maryland, an 87-69 win vs. Old Dominion and a 125-64 shellacking of St. Bonaventure. We even put up 103 in an "L" at Charlotte (103-110).
- Starting 5 was Mike Boyd at point, Chris Leonard sniping at the "2", Chris Brooks and Charles Becton at forward and Phil Wilson at C.
- Mike Boyd's stat line: 15 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds, 3 steals on 6/8 from the floor (3/5 from the line) - added 7 TOs for good measure.
- Chris Brooks was a monster - 23 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block while going a sizzling 3/6 from the line.
- Chris Leonard went for 23, going 5/7 from "3".
- And, Catfish McNeely lit the Dukes up for a deuce!
Fun game, fun times, and went to Chico's Dairy with my Pops after the game for a Mighty Mountaineer, so all was well in the world.
