Summer League is a mix of highly valued rookies and older players looking to catch on with a team. For all of them, playing in the Vegas SL gives them a chance to showcase their game and their professionalism off the court. 3 games in 4 days, back-to-backs - those are designed to mimic a typical stretch during the regular season. Having it in Vegas makes it easier to identify which guys take care of themselves and can be trusted on the road. The reality is most of these guys are 2nd unit role players or spot minute specialists filling out a roster. Those guys get more minutes at the end of road trips and in the 2nd game of back-to-backs...knowing you can trust a guy to be ready to go is a key part of the evaluation.
You'd be amazed how many guys blow it every year. OTOH, some guys that didn't do much in the previous games are already at the Impact Training center getting treatment and a workout in before their game today. And there are underpaid stiffs like I was sipping coffee in the Impact parking lot making a list of who shows up.
