Mountaineers Move One Spot in TDS Poll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (August 24, 2015) – Following a 1-1 showing on its season-opening weekend at Indiana’s Hoosier Classic, the West Virginia University women’s soccer team is down one spot to No. 11 in this week’s TopDrawerSoccer.com Top 25 Poll.

The Mountaineers (1-1) traded ranking spots with Virginia Tech (2-0), who moved up one spot to No. 10 following a 2-1 decision over WVU on Sunday in Bloomington, Ind.

WVU remains the highest-ranked Big 12 Conference team. Texas Tech (1-1) checks in at No. 15.

Defending National Champion Florida State (2-0) continues to rank No. 1, while Virginia (1-0) is No. 2 and Stanford (1-0) is No. 3. Penn State (2-0) ranks No. 4, and North Carolina (2-0) sits at No. 5. Notre Dame (2-0) ranks No. 6 and is followed by Florida (1-1), UCLA (1-1) and Texas A&M (2-0).

WVU opened the 2015 season with a 2-0 victory over SIUE on Aug. 21 at the Hoosier Classic, pushing its program-record unbeaten streak to 20. The squad’s loss to the Hokies was its first defeat since a 2-0 loss to No. 21 Duke on Aug. 29, 2014, in Morgantown.

The 2015 Hoosier Classic All-Tournament Team was announced late Sunday evening and featured Mountaineer juniors Ashley Lawrence and Kadeisha Buchanan.

The Mountaineers conclude their season-opening road trip at Maryland on Friday, Aug. 28, with first kick from Ludwig Field set for 7 p.m. The team opens its 2015 home season at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium on Sunday, Aug. 30, against Duquesne, at 3 p.m.
