Mountaineer Duo Named to TDS Preseason Teams

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (August 10, 2015) – West Virginia University women’s soccer juniors Kadeisha Buchanan and Ashley Lawrence were named to TopDrawerSoccer.com Preseason Teams today.

Buchanan, a defender and native of Brampton, Ontario, earned a spot on the first team for the second straight season. Lawrence, a midfielder and native of Toronto, was named to the third team.

The duo, also teammates on the full Canadian Women’s National Team, were named to the 2015 Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List last week. They started all five matches for Canada at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in June. Buchanan was named the tournament’s Best Young Player, while Lawrence tallied the squad’s lone goal in a 1-1 draw against Netherlands on June 16.

A two-time National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) All-American, Buchanan was named to the 2014 TopDrawerSoccer.com Best XI First Team and the 2013 Best XI Freshman First Team. The two-time reigning Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, she also was named to the 2014 Soccer America Women’s MVP First Team and the ECAC Division I Women’s Soccer All-Star First Team. Buchanan posted a career-best eight points (3 G, 2 A) in 2014.

Lawrence, a two-time NSCAA All-Central Region First Team and All-Big 12 First Team honoree, was WVU’s second-leading point earner in 2014 with 15 points (4 G, 7 A). Her team-best seven assists ranked No. 2 in the Big 12 Conference.
