Mountaineer Card Stunt: End of 1st Quarter

What genius decided to make any plan that revolves around those slackers being sober and complaint?

When I went to WVU, us students were confined to the upper deck. I say keep them (the students) in the upper deck since they obviously don't appreciate the opportunity to see the game by showing up late and leaving early. Give the lower deck seats to us 40-60 year olds that like to bitch and complain....and have money to buy tickets and show up on time and stay for the second half in a tight game.

Gotta love those 28 year olds that live with mom bitching on a message board about 40-60 year olds who have actually accomplished something.

Get in a cup battle and be a man for once...

As a fresh 60 year old (WVU 1978) I'd like to say that we as students used to line up early in the morning to get seats to home games, party as much in line as we did in the stadium, cheered loudly, vigorously and sometimes profanely, stayed for the whole game and then walked over to Sunnyside to party some more from Old Mountaineer Field.

Even after graduation I would go back with friends and sit in the student section whether I had a ticket or not, most times not. This continued at New Mountaineer Field for a few years until life and distance got in the way.

The last game I was able to attend was the last Pitt game in 2011. With ticket in hand I made my way to the student section for old times. I only stayed one quarter as I couldn't stand the inattention to the game and the constant texting and social media interaction going on around me.

Call me an old fart if you want because I will wear it as a badge of honor knowing that I was in the arena as a student, unlike today's group.

To the students (mild) defense....the current system has been broken. Expecting irresponsible kids to get their tickets and go to the games when their spot is assured while drinking at a tailgate is built to fail.

The answer has always been to get there early, have a few beers, get in line early and first come is first served. You will always get a full student section that doesn't take until the 2nd quarter to get there.

Agree about the social media thing. I know if I had a smart phone I would have brought it to the game as a student and I would be on it during commercials and half-time.....but never during live play. That is weak.

We have enough 40-60 year olds who bitch about everything. They also sit on their hands most of the game while the rest of us support the damn team.

Oh, you don't like broad generalizations about a group of people? Contradiction much?

Those "40-60 year olds" make up the majority of MAC donations for WVU ( I.e. the reason WVU football even exists as it does today), so.......

BTW it's easy to make a broad generalization about the student section because THAT'S THE ONLY AGE GROUP THAT SITS IN THOSE SECTIONS!! Saying what you said about 40-60 year olds is your OPINION. There are plenty of 20 somethings that sit and bitch the whole game. There are plenty of 40 somethings that spend the majority of the game standing (I'm one of those). Unless you have something from MPS that breaks down the age of every person sitting in every seat and what percentage of time they spend sitting and bitching, then you are passing off your own bias as fact.

....to be fair, someones' personal "bias" is a fact...for them...and that's OK...I got fans that stand the whole game, they don't cheer, or do the first down thing,...they just pretty much stand there & watch the game....well, OK,...I also have fans behind me that are up in years & have physical frailties that don't allow them to jump up, or stand, at every snap of the ball...fans I been around for over 20 yrs...I respect them & their loyalty to the program....so for me, personally, I try to stay as down as I can....I can make as much noise sitting as standing...to me, it's a respect issue....I respect the students & the noise they bring to the endeavor...they are why, in OT situations, if we have a chance, we choose the north end....this "card stunt" was cute, but in the end, unimportant..IMHO...just sayin'..
