Bell...I agree with some of your assessment. Bottom line: both are great coaches with different styles and approaches to winning. Just have to laugh when some folks laugh at the achievements of former WVU coaches and downplay their achievements. It is not "either or". Proud of the fact that WVU have had both icons as basketball head coach. Thanks for a level headed response to my post...unusual by some on this forum.
No reason to incivil. I agree that folks are disingenuous or lacking objectivity in assessing John Beilein's coaching career at both WVU and UM. WVU would be in great hands had he stayed and it's not an egregious sin that he did not want to stay at WVU. Like I said, I think using legalese to wiggle out of his buyout wasn't an upstanding thing to do. He wanted the bigger payday to keep coaching WVU, but in exchange for that he was expected to pay for an early exit in the buyout. This "I don't owe the buyout because you guys got a good coach to replace me," was not explicitly in the contract. He shouldn't have signed for the bigger pay day if he wasn't going to honor the buy out should a better opportunity come along. Outside of that, I think he earned his paycheck from WVU and did not owe the school loyalty.
