Men's Swimmers Travel to Arizona[/B]

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 14, 2015) -[/B] Select members of the West Virginia University men's swimming team will compete in the Arena Grand Prix at the Mesa Skyline Aquatic Center in Mesa, Arizona, from April 15-18.

The meet, sanctioned by USA Swimming, serves as a part of the 2014-15 Arena Pro Swim Series.

The Mountaineers wrapped up their 2014-15 season at the NCAA Championships on March 28, in Iowa City, Iowa.

"This gives these members of the team their first opportunity to see what we need to improve on for making Olympic Trails," said coach Vic Riggs. "It kicks off our long course season with an excellent meet."

The WVU student-athletes scheduled to participate include Max Spencer, Jay Hickey, Frank Csonka, Andrew Marsh, James Koval, Jake Iotte and Austin Green.

The action will get underway on Wednesday evening. The preliminary sessions on Thursday through Saturday begin at noon ET, while the final sessions each day start at 9 p.m.

There will be no team scoring for this event. A live results link will be provided at WVUsports.com.

The team is scheduled to enter the Monongahela at the Star City Bridge at 6:34 this afternoon and swim downstream, employing the American crawl stroke, to where the Monongahela and the Allegany meet to form the Ohio. They will continue swimming downstream, employing the backstroke, to the confluence of the Ohio and the Mississippi at Cairo, Illinois and continue downstream on the Mississippi, employing the side stroke, to the mouth of the Mississippi in New Orleans, Louisiana.

From there they will swim the Gulf of Mexico, employing multiply strokes, to Cancun, Mexico and then continue along the Mexican coast to Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.

The team will through swim the Panama Canal and then follow the Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexican coastlines into the Gulf of California to where the Colorado River dumps into the gulf.

They will then, employing multiple strokes, proceed upstream in the Colorado to where the Gila River joins the Colorado and proceed upstream in the Gila scheduled to arrive in Phoenix at 6:45 am, Phoenix time, on April 15th.
