Men of March - Bob Huggins

I watched ESPN highlights a bit ago. They had the Men of January on there...aka, the Boomer Sooners.

Was that back when you old guys shot them from between your legs, Rick Barry style? The free throw percentages began to dip when ESPN began highlighting dunks. Kids work more on dunking and 3 point shots, while working on free throws has taken a back seat. Have you ever checked out the free throw percentages of the women? Granted, the ball is smaller, but they make them at a much higher percentage in most cases.

Shooting foul shots is simply a matter of good technique. Easy as pie when you use proper mechanics. I doubt I ever made 57 in a row........but I do remember my HS coach reinforcing proper form and concentration, right down to placing your finger in the same spot on the ball every time. Hard to believe that so many kids with enough raw talent to earn them a BB scholarship are so lacking in basic fundamentals such as shooting from the foul line. If our boys could shot free throws we'd be 18-0 and at the top of the polls.

I can agree with that, especially on kids wanting to make the highlight reels instead of working on fundamentals.

1...shoot with the seams...2...aim for the front of the rim...3...repetition...do the same thing every time...even down to the number of practice dribbles....shoot at least 100 a day
