This whole football setup is nuts. Why members of the G5 feel as though they're actually enjoying a 'seat at the table' is absurd to me. P5 reels in all the dough, P5 gets all the revenue from the top tier bowl games, as well as many of the mid-tier bowl games. G5 is left with a few crumbs, by virtue of the one NYD bowl game that is allotted to them, but even that one is not guaranteed.
I understand the reasoning why G5 continues to stay onboard with this setup though. It's the pay for play games at the beginning of the year, along with a very small slice of payoff from the bowl games. Lastly, it provides P5 bottom feeders with a few opportunities to win 2-3 early season OOC games.
Personally, I would much better enjoy the G5 breaking off and having their own division of football, with their own ratings, their own playoffs, etc. Perhaps they could continue to play a money game against a P5 member, but I would much more enjoy seeing them have their own 'thing', just as I do watching the FCS playoffs, the D2, and the D3. I just think it's outlandish to be a school like Central Michigan, Utah State, Marshall, Air Force, and know that you never have a shot at winning a national title, prior to the season even kicking off.
It's kind of like feeding slop to the hogs.
