Marshall linebacker Raheim Huskey, a key component in the Thundering Herd football team’s 2014 Conference USA championship win, has been dismissed from the team.Herd coach Doc Holliday announced the move in a Monday-morning email, stating that Huskey was gone due to “a violation of team rules and policies.” The email did not elaborate on the rule violation and no further comment would be forthcoming.
Huskey, a redshirt junior, was suspended for violating team rules seven games into the 2015 season. He began that season as the backup middle linebacker to Devontre’a Tyler, but slid down the depth chart when Shawn Petty returned from injury. He had recorded 24 tackles, 2 1/2 for a loss, and a pass breakup before his suspension.Huskey returned to the active roster this past spring as a reserve linebacker.
Though his Marshall career had been spent as a reserve, his performance in the Herd’s 2014 C-USA title game win over Louisiana Tech was most important. He finished that game with eight tackles, 2 1/2 for a loss, two sacks and a forced fumble. Huskey ended the 2014 season, where he mainly played special teams, with 24 tackles, 2 1/2 for a loss, two sacks and a pass breakup.
