Mark Scott[/B]

Mark Scott is in his first year as an assistant coach working with the defense and special teams and in his fourth year with the West Virginia University football program.



He served as an on-field graduate assistant coach working with the defense for two and a half years, working with the outside linebackers, the defensive line and the cornerbacks. Prior to that from August through October, 2012, he was a non-coaching administrative graduate assistant.



The 2014 Mountaineer defense finished among the top three in the Big 12 in passing defense, third-down defense, fourth-down defense, pass efficiency defense, opponent first downs and fourth in red zone defense. Nationally, WVU finished No. 9 in third-down defense, No. 8 in fourth down defense and No. 15 in defensive three-and-outs.



Scott spent a year as an assistant coach at Trine University (Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association), an NCAA Division III school in Angola, Indiana. While at Trine, he was the special teams coordinator and outside linebacker coach for the 2011 season, helping the team to a 7-3 record. Scott recruited central and southern Indiana, including Indianapolis high schools.



He also spent three years (2008-10) as a quality control defensive assistant coach at the University of Indianapolis, a school which competes at the NCAA Division II level. He also worked with special teams prior to the 2008 season.



At UIndy, Scott worked with the outside linebackers for two seasons and the defensive secondary for the 2010 season. His defense was No. 1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while finishing No. 10 nationally in passing defense and No. 16 in total defense in 2009 and No. 12 in passing defense in 2010.



At all three coaching stops, Scott has been responsible for holding position meetings, player academic meetings, scouting opposing offenses and/or special teams and video duties. At UIndy and WVU, he coached the offensive scout teams, while holding daily scouting meetings at WVU. He also prepared weekly scouting reports during time at UIndy, Trine and WVU.



While at UIndy, was responsible on game days for charting defensive calls, offensive personnel, formation and plays to the defensive coordinator. While at West Virginia, game day responsibilities include communicating personnel, offensive formations and plays to the defensive coordinator, as well as charting down and distance tendencies.



Scott began his coaching career as a student assistant during his final semester at Hillsdale College, assisting with the linebackers during the 2007 season.



During his collegiate playing career, Scott was a four-year letterman and three-year starter at outside linebacker at Hillsdale. He amassed over 200 career tackles and was named All-GLIAC Honorable Mention in 2006.
