Let's think outside the box just a bit.

- 141-50 at Georgia.
- 9 seasons with 10 or more wins.
- 7 top 10 finishes.
- 22 players taken in the last four NFL Drafts.
- Produced 7 NFL RBs including most recently Todd Gurley & Nick Chubb (soon to be).
- 7 NFL WRs including No. 4 overall selection A.J. Green.
- 5 NFL QBs including No. 1 overall selection Matt Stafford.
- Fla ties/pipeline: went to HS in Boca Raton, played QB at Miami and was a GA or assistant at Fla State for 12 years. Not to mention recruits elsewhere throughout the south.

Richt's on the hot seat again because his resume doesn't meet the standards at UGA and of the SEC. He said he wants to finish his career at UGA, but I'm not sure if UGA feels the same.

Yesterday ESPN published an article with the headline: "Loss to Florida might mean it's time for Mark Richt, Georgia to part ways."

CBS put out a story 3 days ago titled: "Mark Richt 'loves' Miami, 'but there's been nobody calling' about the job." He also said no one from Miami was "writing, texting or anything."

If I'm Gee & Lyons (SEC ties coming from Alabama), I'm keeping a close eye on this at the very least. Richt may be ousted in Athens and available at the season's end since Georgia believes it should do better. Or he could be fed up with the expectations behind the scenes and would entertain the possibility of change.

It's easier to have success at a school like UGA than it is at a school like WVU. Do you really think Saban could have the same amount of success here that he's had at Alabama?

Mark Richt would not leave UGA for WVU, and he would not live in Morgantown.

I can't speak for sure as to what Georgia might do, but members of the national media seem to think there's questions surrounding Richt's future.

ESPN and CBS headlines are referenced above. ESPN's story says "Georgia is at a crossroads. When Richt leads his team onto the field Saturday against rival Florida, he’ll be coaching for his future. A loss might signal that it’s time for he and Georgia to finally part ways."

Today the Sporting News wrote "Saturday Game is big for Mark Richt's future."

The Orlando Sentinel wrote "The temperature is rising once again around Georgia coach Mark Richt, even if hot-seat talk is absurd. But Richt would calm a fiery fan base with a win Saturday against No. 13 Florida, a team that has given his critics considerable of ammunition."

Earlier this month when UGA lost their first game of the season (to Alabama), "hundreds" of UGA fans took to Twitter to "call for the school to fire Richt." Apparently #FireRicht is an annual campaign from a segment of unsatisfied Bulldogs fans.

The SEC - and most of its fans - has different expectations and pressure to win. If you don't believe that, listen to the Paul Finebaum show sometime. The league fancies itself as magnificent and fans and media have widely touted it as unparalleled. That eventually changes things for coaches. They've admitted it.

This month Steve Spurrier resigned. Urban Meyer is on record saying he was "broken" and "depressed" in his final year at Florida. Phil Fulmer went 152-52 at Tennessee and won a national title. In '07 Fulmer went 10-4. In '08, he was ousted. Auburn's Gene Chizik went 33-19 and was fired just two seasons after going undefeated and winning the national championship. Nick Saban's agent contacted Texas brass about the head coaching position in 2013 because Saban was agitated with Alabama boosters' and fans' expectations.

Considering all of it, Richt could become available by firing or by becoming sick of the crap at Georiga just the same way other SEC coaches have.

Now maybe he beats FL tomorrow and UGA cools its jets. But if he were to become available, Lyons and Gee would be foolish to not at least try. Lyons you'd figure has SEC ties and would not mind to have a former SEC coach. Gee hired Urban Meyer to OSU. Richt by far has the most impressive resume of any names I'm seeing thrown around.

I think some people on this board would have a problem with hiring Mark Richt. He got beat by Rich Rod who according to some is a terrible coach and choker so i don't think that crowd would at all be pleased if he where to be hired

And yet Mark Richt has done less with more than any coach in the SEC. While I think he would be a great hire for WVU, I'm not sure the results would be a Big 12 Championship or an NC.

If he goes anywhere he's going to Miami. He's going home.
I'm not sure how you're not proving my point by that comment. If Richt did less with more than any coach in the SEC he sure isn't going to be very successful at a school that has less, not more.

Greg Robinson. Freakin classic. ha

yeah I do realize Richt could be tough to get. just throwing out a new name for discussion sake. have something positive for a change. I do think he may become available & if so, I'd love to see Gee & Lyons put on the full court press for him. see if he'd at least come on campus for an interview & let the chips fall where they may.

think along same lines of Tenn hiring Rick Barnes. 16 NCAAs in 17 years at TX. 22 total NCAAs. nah, not good enough. Vols immediately stepped in & made what I think was a slam dunk hire. K-State was similarly smart to jump at the opportunity to hire Huggs.

I like the sounds of the guy from Houston too. Herman. I think they have a potent rush attack. I'm also impressed by what Ken Niumatalolo has done at Navy. built up a winner with service academy recruits. triple option is a pesky match-up every week. I prefer a big time running game. being an odd, difficult to prepare for match-up is nice. bring it back to tough, sound, fundamental football. control the clock. play with that old school hard edge.

In time....recruiting has to be built over time. Reputation has to be built over time. Look at Beamer at VT. Success doesn't just mean National Championships in college football. Making a program consistently relevant is successful. D'Antonio, Snyder, Peterson were all very successful in my mind.
