Summer plans so far, are to head to Fayetteville for (3) days, and then up to Gettysburg for (4) days. Of course, it's February, and the wife could totally change the vacation agenda with little to no notice whatsoever.
Instead of using hotels, I opted to start using VRBO about a year ago. It's usually pricier than staying in hotels/resorts, but it's well worth it, as you get all of the luxuries of home during your stay.

I'd suggest reading Shelby Foote's "Stars In Their Courses" before going to Gettysburg. It's an excellent narrative on the events leading up to and during the Gettysburg Campaign.
