MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 4, 2018) – West Virginia University Director of Athletics Shane Lyons announced today the 2018 women’s soccer schedule.

For the third time in four years, at least 50 percent of the Mountaineers’ 18-match slate is comprised of teams that qualified for the most recent NCAA Tournament. Included in the 2018 schedule are meetings at 10 NCAA qualifiers, including fourth-round participants Penn State and Baylor. WVU also will kick against the Big Ten and Big East Conference champions in PSU and Georgetown, as well as the Big Ten and Southeastern Conference runners-up in Northwestern and Arkansas.

“We’re looking forward to a very tough 2018 schedule,” Mountaineer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said. “I feel we’ve again put together a challenging slate that will prepare this team to reach its full potential in the fall.”

Eight of WVU’s matches are scheduled for Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium, including four Big 12 Conference matches for the five-time champion Mountaineers.

WVU opens the 2018 season with four straight matches away from Morgantown. The Mountaineers kick off competition at the Penn State Invitational Aug. 17-19, with a 7:30 p.m. match against the Nittany Lions slated for Friday, Aug. 17, at Jeffrey Field in University Park, Pennsylvania. Last season, WVU defeated No. 1-ranked PSU, 2-0, on Sept. 2, at Dick Dlesk Stadium, before falling, 3-1, to the No. 10 Nittany Lions in the third round of the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 19, also in Morgantown.

The Mountaineers will conclude their opening weekend against Arkansas on Sunday, Aug. 19, with kick at Jeffrey Field set for noon. It will be the first-ever meeting with the Razorbacks.

WVU continues its season-opening roadtrip at the Purdue Tournament Aug. 24-26, at Folk Field in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Mountaineers will kick against the Boilermakers at 7 pm. Friday and against Northwestern on Sunday at noon.

“Our 2018 senior class is very experienced,” Izzo-Brown added. “Knowing this, we put together a tough road slate. I will lean heavily on the leadership of our nine seniors to get us through those tough opening weeks.”

The Mountaineers open their 2018 home season at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium against Xavier on Thursday, Aug. 30, at 7 p.m. WVU opened its 2017 home slate in front of 2,421 fans, the third-largest women’s attendance mark in stadium history and the best regular-season total. Three days later, the Mountaineers will play host to Georgetown on Sunday, Sept. 2, at 3 p.m.

WVU concludes its road nonconference slate at Clemson, a 2017 NCAA Tournament qualifier, on Friday, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m. The Mountaineers wrap up their home nonconference schedule with matches against Boston University on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m., and Saint Francis (Pa.), also a tournament qualifier, on Sunday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m.

The Mountaineers begin their Big 12 Conference slate with a two-match swing through Texas. WVU kicks at Texas Tech on Friday, Sept. 21, at 8 p.m. EDT, before traveling to Fort Worth for a 2 p.m. EDT match at TCU on Sunday, Sept. 23.

WVU opens its Big 12 Conference home slate with three straight matches. Kansas State visits Morgantown for the first time on Friday, Sept. 28, with kick set for 7 p.m. The following week, the Mountaineers face Baylor, the reigning Big 12 postseason champions, on Friday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m., before kicking against Texas on Sunday, Oct. 7, at 1 p.m.

Next, the Mountaineers face Iowa State in Ames, Iowa, on Friday, Oct. 12, at 8 p.m. EDT, before concluding their Big 12 regular-season road slate with a pair of matches in Oklahoma the following week. The Mountaineers face reigning conference regular-season champion Oklahoma State on Friday, Oct. 19, at 8 p.m. EDT, before traveling to Norman for a match at Oklahoma on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m. EDT.

WVU closes its regular-season schedule against Kansas on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Stadium.

“Five Big 12 teams qualified for the 2017 NCAA Tournament, and we know our conference schedule will present us with another big challenge,” Izzo-Brown added.

The Big 12 Soccer Championship will operate under a new format this season. The quarterfinal matches will be held Sunday, Oct. 28, at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Missouri. The semifinal matches will follow on Friday, Nov. 2, and the championship match will be held on Sunday, Nov. 4. The final three championship matches also will be held at Swope Soccer Village.

First-round matches of the 2018 NCAA Tournament will held Nov. 9-11 on campus sites. The 2018 NCAA Women’s College Cup will be held at Nov. 30 – Dec. 2, at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina.
