Lyons Releases Men’s Soccer Schedule

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 21, 2015) – West Virginia University Director of Athletics Shane Lyons has released the 2015 men’s soccer schedule, which is highlighted by 10 home matches at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.

The schedule consists of five games against participants in the 2014 NCAA Tournament, including two games against NCAA quarterfinalists. Additionally, 12 of the team’s 18 opponents finished in the top 100 of the RPI.

“As we do every year, we’ve put together one of the country’s most difficult schedules,” coach Marlon LeBlanc said. “Not only will we go on the road to play some of the top programs in America, but we also will treat the Morgantown soccer community to some great games right here at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.”

The season will begin with an exhibition match at Dayton (Aug. 15), followed by a home contest against Loyola (Md.) (Aug. 23).

WVU opens the season with Navy (Aug. 28) and San Francisco (Aug. 30) at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium as part of the West Virginia University/Penn State University Invitational.

The following weekend, WVU will travel for games at Michigan (Sept. 4) and Michigan State (Sept. 7). After earning the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament last season, Michigan State advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to Providence.

The Mountaineers will then play five of their next eight games at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium, beginning with a game against James Madison (Sept. 11).

Following a trip to Wright State (Sept. 15), WVU will host Georgetown (Sept. 20) and UNC Greensboro (Sept. 26). Georgetown fell to Virginia in penalty kicks in the NCAA quarterfinals last season after entering the tournament as the No. 8 seed.

West Virginia hits the road again for non-conference matches against St. Francis (Pa.) (Oct. 3) and Virginia Tech (Oct. 6). The Mountaineers and Hokies renewed a rivalry last season with West Virginia earning a 3-0 victory.

The Mid-American Conference season commences at home with a match against Western Michigan (Oct. 9). The Mountaineers will then host Penn State (Oct. 13). The Nittany Lions were the No. 9 seed in last year’s NCAA Tournament, advancing to the second round.

The Mountaineers will play the next three games on the road against Buffalo (Oct. 16), Princeton (Oct. 20) and Bowling Green (Oct. 24), before returning home to close out the regular season against Akron (Oct. 29), Penn (Nov. 3) and Northern Illinois (Nov. 6).

MAC Tournament action is held from Nov. 13-15 at the site of the highest seed.
