13-2 in last 15 games. I'm sure the decision was made by both sides to re-evaluate at the end of the season, but Dana has proven he's got the program on good footing and heading in the right direction. Like him or not, we're now contending for the Big XII.

If I were Dana, I'd tell the media that he's not negotiating an extension and go into next year with a great team or take a new job.

How do we know they are not having preliminary discussions? Both sides would be rather short sighted to finalize now. I believe its likely been established Lyons intends to keep Holgorsen, but the rest of the season will substantially effect the $$$ both ways. They could end up 12-1 and in the top 10 or 8-5 and unranked. With all of the injuries it will likely be somewhere in between. Gibby's DAWGS are hurting as much as the offense.

Lyons has ZERO leverage and the issue right now is, does Dana intend to keep Lyons or look for a better job? Dana still has one year left on his contract and is having a very good season. Lyons made the rookie mistake of putting the negotiations into the media and undermining Dana - he bet against the WVU football team, which is very sad.

IMO, If I were Dana, I wouldn't return his phone calls.

Why, on Earth, do we hire a child (rookie) to do a man's work (that of an AD in a top rung University?) Glad to see someone else willing to step out and acknowledge the situation that really does exist. Lyons is ill prepared to handle the job for which he was hired. He lacks the necessary management skills (and has so demonstrated by the, as you say it, "...rookie mistake...") His "... As some have noted (and reasonably so) there may be discussions going on behind the scenes. I have doubts and fully expect that Lyons is merely laying in the shows, gathering any data he can use to justify his taking actions against Dana. As you say "..he bet against the WVU football team, which is very sad..." Some have stated that they doubt, at this time, Dana would accept calls from him. If really interested in getting the staff retained Mr. Lyons could inconvenience himself and make the trek to Mylan-Puskar and pay a personal visit to Dana (as many times as it takes to get the job done). Not holding breath waiting for this to happen either. I have said from before the season started (and after the idiotic actions of Mr. Lyons, that I fully expect that we will have a new STAFF next year--either by having Dana leave because of success or because Mr. Lyons pulls another of his childish blunders.

We don't know what's going on behind closed doors. If Holgerson and his agent is smart, and I'm sure they are, it is not in their best interests to sign anything YET. He already knows that he has WVU in his back pocket for a long-term deal for a specific price AS OF RIGHT NOW. He can drive that price up if he continues to win. So.....why negotiate now? Wait. If he loses a few more games, he will still be asked to come back. If he wins out, and makes a run at the 4-team playoff, he can name his $$$$.

Smart move......but for anyone to speculate that WVU has not offered is being plum silly.

They should at least state that WVU plans to successfully
execute contract extension at end of season. That would
hopefully help current recruiting efforts. WVU can not
likely get in a better situation than now with progress and
what we will have next year.

And Mr. Lyons has adequately demonstrated that he qualifies as "plum silly"

Typically Dana fluffer rhetoric. How many coach's get contract extensions after going 8-5.
The Dana fluffer likes to take credit when things go well but deflect blame on to skyler Howard when things go poorly. The Dana fluffer can't explain what went on between Holgorsen and Lyons because they weren't there. Saying that Lyons decided to negotiate in the media is a false claim being touted by those who put there allegiance to Dana above Wvu.

Because that's the strategy Lyons took against Dana and if your "boss" did that to you, wouldn't you look for another position?

Dana's stock will be high after this season and there's two school looking for HC's that are putting a value on offensive production, 1) LSU...2) Oregon.

Too late.

That's what they should have said last season.

Bear one thing in mind. Player decisions to go for style points instead of building experienced depth have left this very good team in a fragile situation offensively in the final games starting with Texas and no more bye weeks. They have left themselves about three plays away from disaster.

When all three of the RBs were first banged up and they had a substantial lead, where was Pettaway besides getting offensive player of the week on scout teams? Chugunov continued to carry a clipboard instead of playing the last two or three possessions in major wins. What if Orlosky goes down? Can you even name his backup? (Matt Jones, 6'3" 316 lb r-Fr)

People can say Shell and Crawford are fine, but only if these same people have never had an ankle injury. They take time to heal. McKoy is still sucking it up and playing 25 carries with an injured shoulder. Coach has a lot of leverage today, but it's an eggshell. If Howard, McKoy or Orlosky are injured and cannot play on an effective level, that eggshell breaks.

Good grief. Have you ever negotiated anything in your life with the exception of a raise in your allowance? lol

Funny how you stopped short of actually explaining why I was wrong.

BTW Root, I've noticed you've been absent from these boards while we've been winning games. Everything OK with you?
