LSU, Houston coach Tom Herman close to deal, per sources

One of these reports is bound to be right since they've covered all the bases and the outfield spots, too.
When LSU announces, then we'll all know who it is.
Herman holds the best cards in the coaching deck at the moment.
Back up the Brinks truck at his house, guys!

Part of me wishes Houston had enough to make him want to stay...he can obviously recruit being in the backyard of some pretty big boys...I like to root for the underdog sometimes and it's nice to see what is supposed to be the little guy , dishing out some whup ass to the big guns. I mean really . ...who didn't enjoy last weekend over Loo-Ville ?....yes I know... $$$$ talks.

$$$ talks and when he eventually has to reload at Houston (I don't follow Houston, for all I know he has to reload 22 starting seniors this year or he has 22 starting sophomores and juniors) he might not be as fortunate with this current group when trying to reload. So on top of more money, knowing what he can do when he actually has a loaded team he gets job security knowing he will always have a loaded squad to work with since the program recruits for itself. The other choice is he stays and his star probably fades if he struggles to reload and regresses to 6-6. Sure you would think UH would give him job security but hardly a guarantee in the cutthroat world of football coaches, you're typically always 2 bad seasons from being shown the door regardless of what you have accomplished.

And once again the BIG 12 misses out on a great coach and great up and coming program only to deliver them to the enemy.

To add to that- they were worried about Houston recruiting- how bad will it be now with LSU blowing it up in Texas?

My take is LSU is being used to get Texas to offer a similar/better deal to what was offered to Nick Saban. This is out of the Jimmy Sexton playbook, even though that's not Herman's agent. This is not as good as when Scott Borris got the Yankees to bid against themselves to keep ARod due to a fear of a team not even out there but it's fun to watch. Especially considering Universities are supposed to be the institutions of such knowledge and education and enlightenment.

Texas is a much better job than LSU. Texas can pay a lot more $$$$ too. Plus they're getting squeezed again by being probably the 4th best squad in Texas. Egos are hurting. They'll make a rush decision say by Sunday Morning.

LSUs regular season is over. If Herman was going there they could announce it today.

Ed Orgeron....the man who takes over as interim head coach, does a solid job, yet never gets hired as the permanent coach. This makes at least twice this happened, it happened at USC few years ago.

It's not for lack of support from the fans. Many, many want him. I'm a little biased toward him. He lives near me. His sons went to high school with my kids, etc.

Something in Coach O's personal life holding him back? To me, it seems a no brainer for LSU to hire Coach O.

I think ADs fall in love with the hot candidate. They love the splash. Ego says, "Texas wants him? Well we're gonna get him."

LSU won't need to blow it up in Texas. They already have recruits in their own state, plus aTm already is pulling recruits, so it isn't like this hire is going to make any difference.

I know your doom-and-gloom is because Metro Directional City College couldn't join the prestigious ranks of the Big XII, but it will be ok.

Texas recruiting is very important to LSU. About 15% of their recruits come from Texas.

ESPN is reporting/implying that if Herman goes to LSU and Texas wins over TCU, Strong may be retained for another season.

The "read between the lines" is that Jimbo Fisher doesn't want to leave FSU. At least not for LSU.
I think LSU is a slightly better job, but he recently won a NC at FSU. It seems like it would be tough for him to leave.

LSU recruits heavily in Texas and Herman is a major force there already.

With A and M and LSU both blowing Texas recruiting up, the BIg 12 is going to lose major ground in Texas.

Don't expect an ignoramus like yourself to understand the added problem this creates --a fool who thinks its a good thing for WVU and the rest of the conference to sit back and do nothing so OU and UT can bolt the conference in a few years sending the rest to the G5. Cause everyone knows Louisville, er Houston er, anyone else could never compete in the BIG 12 or be an advantage to this conference.

Their best player on defense is a true freshman and their recruiting has been pretty solid. Oliver could be a top 10 pick in two years. Maybe higher.

Fisher wanted more money than they wanted to pay, has little to do with him not wanting to leave FSU.

If Jimbo Fisher moves to another team.............he goes for the $$$. Yes, he will move on if the $$$ is right. How do I know? Well................I ain't stupit! Warez

Lot of good coaches out there for Texas to get. Rumors from ESPN say a deal could be in place this Saturday. Just waiting on the Signature.

First Two Sentences of the Article:
LSU has zeroed in on Houston's Tom Herman as its next head coach and could have a deal in place as early as Saturday, sources said Thursday.

But another source said Herman hasn't ruled out an offer from Texas, which has been expected to make Herman its top choice if Charlie Strong is fired.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

Which one?

I don't think Ed O will beat BAMA unless Saban leaves. He will get paid. His offensive style I've seen is no different than Les Myles. I don't think he is a Great Head Coach either. I'm surprised they didn't wait and go after Gundy.

I think someone will hire Gundy eventually.

Herman is probably gonna find out that getting players ready 8-10 ttimes a year is much harder than getting them ready for about 2-3 big games a year vs 1-2 P5 &/or 1-2 non P5 schools. He will get paid though.

Btw I heard Charlie Strong gets $10 million for getting fired. What a deal! Institutions of higher education? Yeah sound like it.

I think, unlike Miles, Orgeron will allow the allow is O-C to be the O-C and not just a QB coach.

O-Cs under Les Miles:
1) Jimbo Fisher (hold over from Nick Saban)
2) Gary Crowton
3) Greg Studrawa
4) Cam Cameron

Under Crowton, Studrawa, and Cameron you couldn't tell any difference in the style of offense. Crowton ran a wide open offense before coming to LSU. Cameron was an Air Coryell disciple. But somehow no matter who they brought in as O-C or QB coach LSU always ended up running the Bo Schembechler offense circa 1975.

ESPN crawl quotes LSU sources as saying "they were tired of being held hostage" by Herman and agent.

That was my point. Herman and his agent have manipulated all of this. Think about when this stuff started breaking and where it was breaking from. It started right when LSU was playing A&M.

Now Strong is canned. Herman is going to Texas unless they swirve him. I don't think they will. It was obvious when Texas stopped Houston in expansion, there was some interest in Herman. A lot easier to hire a coach not in your conference. I figure Houston's loss yesterday may keep Herman from getting the Saban truckload of $$$$$$$$.

Is Texas hiring Herman or is the boosters hiring Herman?

Herman could be another project. Strong project failed. If Herman fails. How will boosters handle a 2nd straight failed hiring?

Herman is receiving a talented young team and could garner a top recruiting class. It would be hard for him to fail with the returning players.

Let's remember Texas hired Strong after Saban & Jimmy Sexton used them to get a raise at BAMA. Strong was at least the 2nd choice. Probably at least the 3rd cause Chris Peterson didn't want the job either.

This fascination with Herman may be more $$$$$$$ to try and buy wins. Sometimes the best guy may not be the hot guy. Time will tell.
