120th best defense in College Football

the curtain................... is shredded

you mad, Go?

His pass defenses were never highly ranked at WVU. Good run defense because everyone passed on WVU. How many 300 yd passing games did that D give up?

To be fair a lot of that was due in part to a SOB HC who stole about every good cb prospect and turned them into a Slot or WR in a 1 D run offense.

It's been Rod's issue since he left. He has never fielded a decent defense since his WVU days.

He would still be at Michigan if he had someone decent at DC.

I think in time Gibby will surpass his mentor. He might already have. Our defense looked awful for a month, but we played some great offenses with a backfield that is just beat up right now.

WVU is a respectable 54th I believe, despite the schedule strength so far and still roughly 1-2 games under where other teams are in their schedules.

You would think at Arizona he would be able to get good athletes to be successful but its not looking good for him.

I don't know their situation with how many players they lost from last year , freshmen starting ect but he isn't having the success he had at WVU.

Those Sugar Bowl and Fiesta Bowl defenses were really good.

I knew it was low, but I had no idea that it was that low. In the Big 12 it would be even worse with all of the high power offenses. One could easily conclude now that the biggest factor in Casteel's decision to leave WVU was our new conference. He knew he couldn't compete.

I am sure that if he was still playing a "Big East" like schedule, his defense would be highly ranked. Another native son bites the dust.

Not to worry, on our idiot board he will always be a great coach raised in W.V.

Well regardless of what you think of him as coach, you have to be impressed that he alone knew way back in 2007 that 5 years later we would be in the Big 12.

With that kind of prescience, you'd think he'd be unstoppable because he'd always know the next play the other side is going to run.

Either that or it's hilarious you call anyone an idiot.

ummm.....I think they were talking about Casteel knowing he couldn't compete in the Big 12

who is the fat guy on the left?

Ariz is 5-5. WV is 4-4. They've won 2 Pac-12 games. We've got one BXII win.

I wish it was different just like you guys but those are the numbers that matter, especially in the what have you done for me this week world.

"You are what your record says you are."

as noted before, Casteel is a liability with a few top 10 exceptions (07 & 10).

funny how injuries/depth are excuses used by all teams.

He had a pretty good DC , but Rod made him run a 3-5-3 stack with 9 freshman. He had never coached it and didn't want to coach it. Man they were pretty hard headed.Good talent , wrong defense.

No, I love it, Keaton...thanks for the laughs today. With nearly every post, you further cement yourself as the board's Hypocrite-in-Chief.

Only you would be enough of a hypocrite to link total yardage when WVU has played only 8 games and Arizona has played 10 games--especially after you (correctly) pointed out to someone else 2 weeks ago that was the improper comparison in a criticism of our rushing offense v. theirs. Your words from October 27:

"Arizona has played 2 more games that WVU too..................

the team-statistic rankings are heavily swayed because programs like WVU have played 1-2 fewer games so far than others like Zona. WVU is 58th despite only 6 games worth of running stats... I'll gladly take that, when others have 7-8 games' worth."

For anyone who may be interested in the actual relevant comparison instead of "selective statistics calculated in a biased manner" (funny how that complaint never seems to be levied when it's used to support Holgorsen), you need to use total yards/game (WVU 89 v. Arizona 110) or--most accurately, to account for facing tempo offenses--total yards/play (WVU 87 v. Arizona 94). The links are below:

http://espn.go.com/college-football/statistics/team/_/stat/total/position/defense/sort/yardsPerGame

http://www.cfbstats.com/2015/leader/national/team/defense/split01/category10/sort02.html

I guess the truth is inconvenient, though, when it doesn't make for quite as compelling a case as carefully-crafted lies and propaganda.

I'm also sure the same hypocrites who cite our loss of Karl Joseph as a major setback for the WVU defense somehow don't want to hear any excuses about Arizona losing Scooby Wright even earlier than we did Karl. Wright was only a unanimous All-American, Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, and winner of the Nagurski, Lombardi, Bednarik, and Lambert awards last season.

The good news is Keaton only MFs ex-WVU coaches on days ending in the letter "Y", so his next character-assassination piece should be right around the corner.

Thanks for playing, Keaton. You've never really been a time-waster until now, but with an effort this poor you'll have to do a lot better than this to get my attention in the future. I do appreciate you taking off your knee pads long enough to start a thread and show us all that there was a little room in your head for GoWVU, though, and not just your Uncle Dana fantasies. That is so cute.

Meanwhile, I'll let you get back to your ongoing smear campaign against Casteel. I mean, what did he ever do for WVU football? He was just the DC for the only 3 BCS wins this school has ever had (under 3 different head coaches) plus the only Gator Bowl win this school has ever had.

We all realize that's nothing compared to the thousands of heroic posts you've made telling everyone what a piece of crap he and RR and Bill Stewart and Don Nehlen and John Beilein are. I'm sure your next one attacking them and/or me is coming in 3, 2, 1...

Hurry up and prove me right, buddy.

Keaton has no credibility here. This board is too smart (seriously).

BUT he's a lot of fun.

Hence, I do not approve of the emasculating tone in the rebuttal posts.

KC.........................you are right on the money with this post. WV is in fact a respectable 54th, despite playing a schedule that Alabama would have trouble winning enough to be respectable.

His madness, confirmed

Unkie Jeff gonna get fired. Arizona's got a broken curtain rod....
