Democrat Party activists are reportedly calling for moderate Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) to be primaried when he runs for reelection in 2024, following his refusal to vote for climate change initiatives and new tax legislation.

“This man has been a thorn in the side of not only the White House, but the American people as well,” said Nina Turner, Bernie Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign advisor, according to Fox News.

“West Virginia is one of the poorest states in the nation, yet he stands in the way of legislation that would help working people. He should be primaried for that alone,” Turner added.

These comments come after Manchin refused to greenlight a $300 billion subsidy and tax credit package in Congress last week, which would have gone to clean energy technology initiatives.

In addition, the West Virginia native has refused to eliminate the filibuster, a longstanding Senate tradition that allows the minority party to block legislation if it doesn’t reach the necessary threshold of 60 votes.

At a time when the Senate is split 50-50 with Vice President Kamala Harris (D) serving as the tie-breaking vote, the lone dissenter — Manchin — has considerable power to shape legislation and stop Democratic policy projects in their tracks.

“I said, ‘Can we just wait until the inflation figures come out [for] July until we know if the Federal Reserve will hike interest rates?’” Manchin told West Virginia MetroNews. “Then make the decision on what we can do and how much we can do.”

Dimwits. If it isn't Manchin, it's going to be a Trump-backed Conservative.

West Virginia is Trump Country. Period.

The left's best hope is Manchin. I won't be voting for him. Won't be voting for Capito either.

It's great being an Independent! We vote for America, not a party/letter.

Currently we suffer from donkey pox.

You lose the ability to shape the candidates in the Primaries. Without having a say, you’re left to vote for whatever the party puts forward. In effect, the independents leaving the parties have caused, or rather, facilitated the lurch to the extremes. Good for the GOP because we needed rid of the RINOs, but bad on the left, they’ve been able to install the socialists. The left is actually ok with people changing to independent.

Well, that's really stupid, doubt that Joe will lose no matter what.

another example where ideas are not driving solutions but the abuse of power. Can't negotiate options so let's steam roll opposition. Typical of a totalitarian, dictatorial ideology.

Just to piss them off, bring back the notion of Trump running. Scares them back to re-reading the communist manifesto again while reordering replacement diapers from amazon.

It's just a a bad idea in every way. Talk about not being able to read the room. Manchin would crush any liberal in the state in a primary and it would only be worse if the GOP was also voting

I think this is strategy to bolster support for him to solidify him as the choice thereby keeping a pseudo reliable Dem in an otherwise overwhelming Red state.

Maybe I should register Democrat, vote against leftists and then vote Conservative in the general election?

As a independent we can vote in the primaries in WV. Just have to ask for the ballot of your choice. I'm independent & voted in this year's Republican primary.

It’s different in each state. Some states are open, some aren’t. MD you have to vote the party you’re registered as.
