Just how bad is WVU’s free throw shooting this season?
Jaysean Paige, Devin Williams, Jevon Carter, Jonathan Holton and Tarik Phillip are shooting 70% or better. That’s half the 10-man rotation that Huggins uses.
Daxter Miles, Nathan Adrian and Teyvon Myers are shooting 60% or better.
The strugglers are Esa Amad at 51% and Elijah Mason at 43%.
However, NO Mountaineer ranks in the top 50 nationally, where No. 50 is at 85.8%. And WVU is NOT in the top 50 nationally, where No. 50 is at 73.1%.
WVU is the top Power 5 team in offensive rebounds per game.
WVU is 15th among Power 5 teams in total rebounds per game.
Surprisingly, despite Press Virginia, WVU is NOT in the top 50 in team personal fouls per game. (I couldn’t believe it either; so I checked it twice.) Despite being No. 1 among all D-1 teams, not just Power 5 teams, in steals per game. And leading all D-1 teams in forced turnovers per game.
That tells me Huggins’ Heroes are doing a stellar job of stealing the ball without just mugging the opposition. That is a very difficult thing to accomplish.
WVU is 10th among Power 5 teams in scoring defense.
