WVU has not beaten a Power 5 team with a record better than 5-4 and 2 of the 4 games left are against 5-4 Texas and 1-8 Iowa State.

It’s imperative that the Mountaineers run the table, including Oklahoma and Baylor, if WVU expects to play in the New Year’s Day 6-Pack Bowls.

The Football Final Four is a LONG shot.

WVU 26, Missouri 11 (Tigers are 2-7 and LAST in the SEC East division)

WVU 38, Youngstown 11 (Penguins are 6-3 in a lower division)

WVU 35, BYU 32 (Cougars are 5-4 but have beaten Mississippi State)

WVU 17, Kansas State 16 (Wildcats are 5-4 and 5th in the Big 12)

WVU 48, Texas Tech 17 (Red Raiders are 4-5 and 8th in the Big 12)

WVU 34, TCU 10 (Horned Frogs are 5-4 and 5th in the Big 12)

WVU 20, Oklahoma State 37 – the Mountaineers’ only loss – Cowboys are 7-2 and 2nd in the Big 12

Nov. 12 – WVU at Texas (Longhorns are 5-4 and in a 3-way tie for 5th in the Big 12)

Nov. 19 – Oklahoma in Mountaineer Field (Sooners are 7-2 and 1st in the Big 12 but lost to non-Power 5 Houston, 33-23, and top 6 team Ohio State, 45-24) Houston is 7-2 and 3rd in the AAC West – the Big East lite.

Nov. 26 – at Iowa State (Cyclones are 1-8 and last in the Big 12)

Dec. 3 – Baylor in Mountaineer Field (Bears are 6-2 and 4th in the Big 12)

Watching Mike & Mike this morning and their rundown of CFP possibles. WVU not included, even in the remote possibility category. But ESPN hates us so it's OK.

Hope like hell we prove them wrong .

For WVU to make the playoffs, winning the next 4 games is the least of the Mountaineers' worries and that's why it's a near impossibility. A lot of losing has to happen to the teams currently ahead of WVU in order for for an 11-1 Big XII team to get to the final four. Clemson has the easiest road to an undefeated season with their toughest games behind them. The SEC winner is a lock. I strongly doubt Michigan or Ohio State will really challenged by whatever they face in the Big Ten championship game. All that to pretty much say you can assume a Big Ten team and SEC team are going to be included. The other 2 spots are Clemson's and Washington's to lose.

Sounds like a fair assessment to be, even though we all want WVU to go 11-1 and somehow slip into the Football Final Four. But 11-1, a Big 12 title (solo or co-) would be tremendous achievement for Dana and the players after a 4-year average of 4-5 in the Big 12 standings. I'll be wetting my pants if that happens. Happily.

While I do enjoy your vague optimism, all hell would have to break loose for us to even be in a position to get lucky enough to start to be considered this year. We had the Mo and Okie light got us. Hopefully we don't validate everyone's (besides ours) opinion of us this weekend in Austin

I totally agree that 11-1 would make me ecstatic as well, it's just unlikely to be enough to make the CFP. I unfortunately believe WVU takes at least one and possibly 2 more losses before the season ends, but hope I'm wrong. Not saying we can't go 11-1, but Texas, OU, and Baylor will possibly require solid outings by all 3 units and WVU has only managed that against TTU and TCU. The other games were wins sans OSU, but revealed exploitable flaws for at least half the game.

We're not going 11-1. We'd need more luck than any season before us has provided, and that's including the 11-0 years. I just want us to eventually beat OU and beat them badly.

Well, beating Texas and Oklahoma back to back would be a very good way to continue this season. 9-1 would sound darn good.

Like I've said all along, I just hope we go 11-1, at that point I hope we get in but I'm not going to have an anti ESPN temper tantrum if we don't get in, nor do I believe we have any chance of beating Bama in a playoff game. 11-1 Big XII champs has a nice ring to it, lets make it happen.

I would love beating both OU and Texas in the same year but we either win this week and lose the next, or vice-versa.
