I know there are those who point to the 3-4 record in the first round.

But Kansas, Oklahoma and West Virginia, who finished in the top 4 in the Big 12 standings, all won their first round games.

The losers were 7th place Oklahoma State, 6th place Texas, 4th/5th (tie with WVU) Baylor and 2nd/3rd (tie with Oklahoma) Iowa State.

All three Big 12 survivors will be Sunday: Kansas vs. Wichita State at 5:15, Oklahoma vs. surprise play-in team Dayton at 6:12 and WVU vs. Maryland at 8:40 (which shows that TV thinks that it is its best ratings draw at night).

WVU beat Buffalo, 68-62. Kansas beat New Mexico State, 75-56. Oklahoma beat Albany, 69-60.

If WVU wins, it gets the Kentucky-Cincinnati winner. Kentucky.
If Kansas wins, it gets the Butler-Notre Dame winner. Tossup?
If Oklahoma wins, it gets the Michigan State-Virginia winner. Cavaliers? Maybe not?

WVU and Kansas can't meet till the Final Four.
Oklahoma can't meet either till the championship game.

We can only hope.

Thanks for putting that together CFE. We beat Md and we're...

..assured 2 Border Wars in a row. Off course, that would still be the case had Cincinnati pulled an upset.

Wichita State is really good and if they don't know they are supposed to bow out, then Look Out!

Historically, OU is already in deep water unless Wayman Tisdale walks through the door.

There are NO "easy victories" in March Madness

Ask Villanova, Ohio State, North Carolina, Louisville, Notre Dame.

That's what makes March Madness so special. Non-Power 5 teams can beat Power 5 teams. At least in the first two rounds. By the Final Four, the usual suspects show up.

Best of all, WVU still is alive and will be till Sunday or maybe Thursday or maybe -- do you believe in miracles? -- beyond the Kentucky game.

My assessment is that the Big 12 stinks in both basketball and football. What other proof do you need!
